Hi guys I’m a new chameleon owner I’ve had him for about a month now and I am starting to question if he is actually a male. Can anybody please help me identify this, I am worried that he/she will lay eggs. The pet store told me it was a male. Any advice? It is about 4 months old and is starting its first molt.

In this species, males have tarsal spurs on their back feet..on the back of the foot where he heel is…females don’t…

It’s important to know because females can produce eggs without mating…infertile of course…and without proper husbandry as they reach sexual maturity, they can develop follicular stasis, produce too many eggs per clutch and become eggbound.

I am not spotting tarsal spurs. I think your Chamaeleo calypatratus is a female too.
