I recently received two Jackson chams. 2 year old male and female they both have been doing well until the day before yesterday, female immediately eats 3 large crickets when fed in am and then is on the move all day. She climbs the sides of the cage constantly and if not the cage she is all over artificial plant. Male is acting fine, they are housed in 18X18X36 enclosure. Is this normal behavior for female Jackson? Thanks

Are they living together?

IF so, they need to be seperated asap.

The male can show aggression towards the female, be food and basking spot dominant, as well as try to mate with her constantly.

she could also already be gravid.

Hello, and welcome to the forum. The reason for the females behavior could be either or two things or a combo of both. Chameleons are very solitary creatures. Keeping more than one in a cage will most ofter mean one of the two is bullied. The other issue it that the female may be getting ready to have babies. If she and the male have been together for a while then I would guess that is why she is roaming like that. You need to get the male out of the cage asap. If he is in the cage the female will try not to give birth to babies as the male will eat them. Also it the babies are not removed the mother may also eat them. Sorry you have walked into a sitatution like this. But the babies are darling. You will also need to get some fruit flies and pinhead crickets to feed the babies.
