New cham!!

Hello all,

I recently got a cham from Eric from chameleons101.

He's about a 5 month old panther chameleon and he made quite a trip from Cali to NYC.

I have a 24''x24''x48'' cage that is stacked with live plants, sandblasted driftwood, and a sharper image humidifier to provide a constant mist.

Let me know what you think

Hello :) Really good looking Cham you got there, with a great looking house for him too. How's he been settling in?

Hes' not really too lovable yet, he hasn't really recognized me as friendly / food providing yet. Tried hand feeding him but he gets freaked pretty easy, no success yet :( .

He's very active and has been exploring all areas of the cage except for the lower parts, and he has been eating about 6 to 10 large crickets a day.

Well he's still a nervous little juve, so don't worry about it, he will only get more used to you. Patience really is the key for any interaction with a Chameleon. How long have you had him?

had him for about a week or two now. not long at all
and yeah he's nervous

I know that people say you shouldn't handle them too frequently, but i feel that if i handle him once a day it'll help the process and he'll understand daily that he is taken out and placed back in his home safely.

Idk if that's ok but i've been doing it

I think it's mostly recommended to let them settle in with no handling for about a week. Routine will make it easier for them though, so if you do things like feeding and handling at the same times of day that will help. In the end it will be up to him to decide whether he's a friendly or more anti social sort of guy, but keep up with trying to hand feed - patience will get you there, almost certainly :) A couple of mealworms might help too
