New Cham owner questions?

New Cham Joe

Got my male veiled in May this year at 3 months old. He is growing big and just got him a new herp about three weeks ago. He moves up and down the cage alot? Can't find any info on this behavior. The other thing is he doesn't seem to eat as much as he did as a toddler? he is eating super worms now. Doesn't seem to like crickets much now. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I will post a picture of Rufus later.

He is exploring his new home. dont worry, totaly normal. how big is the new cage?
as for superworms, these are not daily feeders. they have a hard shell that can cause impaction.
crickets and dubia roaches are daily feeders.
and yes, he wont eat as much as he did when he was a baby.
up to about 6 months old, they can eat a voracious amount of crickets.
after 6 months old, they slow down.
I feed my 8 month old veiled every other day about 5-10 medium sized crickets.
You can still feed every day, i only do it every other bc my boy doesnt want to eat every day.
adults normally get fed every other day anyway.

Cage is 30"X18"X18". Thanks for the info Camimom was getting worried that there was something wrong. He protects his new home by hissing and trying to bite, but me thinks that is more for show then anything cause once he is out he is fine being handled.

I'm confused  Is he 7 months old?

When you say he is up and down is he climbing the actual cage? 30x18x18 may be too small for a veild that age. You may want to get him a 48x24x24.

If he is feeling cramped it might affect his appetite also.

my chameleon does not eat crickets and I won't do the roach thing. My chameleon eats supers all the time, pretty much on a regular basis here and I have never had a problem. I also feed silks, horns and moths so I think if you feed them daily you just have to make sure you mix up some soft bodied insects to keep them from getting blocked up. Just giving my opinion on my experience and what has worked for me. I have never once had my chameleon be constipated while feeding supers.
