New Cham Experience

I will be getting my first veiled on Tuesday. I have done a few months of research, and I think I have all of my bases covered as far as my enclosure/supplies/vetrinarian/etc go. My question for all of you owners (new and old) is what was the one thing that caught you off guard or you didn't expect when you got your first chameleon? I've poured through tons of beginners and care guides, but there has to be stuff that isn't covered in those, right?

Weird stories welcome, I think I'm just dying of the anticipation of my little guy getting here!

A lot of people get really concerned when they bring home a new Cham and they don't eat for a few days. This is totally normal. Also, people really want to interact with them a lot when they're new because they're excited, but it's hard on them. Best to keep your distance for a week or two to let the little one settle in.

I'm sure he/she will! It just takes a bit of time. Do you have any photos of the setup? Sometimes it's good to post up here so we can offer advice on the enclosure

This boy will be ready to go when he arrives. Do not wait a week to interact or his friendliness could change.

I wasn't aware you were getting one of Jann's babies. Then yes, he'll be friendly already!!

Yes! I posted a picture a couple nights ago in the enclosure category. I've added another branch and vine since then though so he'd have more to climb on.

I agree, Jann's babies are used to being handled, so you can gently and slowly alow him to climb onto your hand when you open the deli cup.
You can introduce yourself to him right away.
You don't want to ignore him like you would a cham from a large business breeder who never handles them except when they ship them to a customer.

Your little guy will not be afraid of you, but may be a bit confused due to being in a box and shipped.
