New Carpet

I am new to chameleons and picked up my carpet, Dexter, yesterday. Completely amazed by him! His range of colours is fascinating. He’s been yellow, creamy beige, dark brown, tiger striped, pale blue, green and even has a hint of pink sometimes. I’m very smitten! 4D0A13B4-3F23-409F-879E-070E703EA048.jpeg 281CBBE3-CA9F-4A55-BEA9-23F9E4974028.jpeg

It's the kind of carpet you don't like to step on!

I really love the looks of carpet chameleons but their lifespan is just so short, it's what keeps me from getting one....

I’m not sure. I bought him from a reptile shop in UK, didn’t think to ask, I just assumed they were all captive bred. Next time I go in I’ll ask.

The bright yellows are obviously his annoyed colours! I put some locusts in earlier and he hissed at me and turned yellow! I’m guessing this is normal.

Hopefully he's captive bred! Wild caught carpet chams are usually adults, already near the end of their lifespan (usually last 6 months or so in captivity) - riddled with parasites to boot. You may want to consider getting a fecal done, especially if you have any other reptiles which could be affected by that

I need to get some more locusts tomorrow so I’ll ask when I’m in there. I was told he’s 6-9 months old, so hopefully that means he’s captive bred. I have a Rankins dragon too, so I’ll get a decal done ASAP. Thanks for the advice.

Yup, no problem! I hope so, too. Beautiful carpet one way or another. I've been preparing for a captive bred female from a breeder here in the US, so I've been doing lots of reading and listening on the species and always get excited when anyone posts about them here

I wanted a panther, did a lot of research on them, visited a few reptile stores, bought everything, then popped in to have another look as I was ready to put a deposit down on one. Then I saw Dexter and fell in love! It took me a while to get the humidity levels right before I picked him up and he seems very happy. He ate two locusts within 10 mins of being in his new home, it was the best thing I’ve ever seen! I love my dragon, but Dexter is next level!!

Looks good, I also have a carpet (CB), really different from owning a panther. My carpet is always on alert & tries to hide, my panther on the other hand walks on out his cage as soon as it's open.
