New Baby Chameleon Questions!

I just bought a baby veiled chameleon at petco on Saturday. I've never owned one before so I just had a few questions. Is it normal for them to not be eating a lot? I have not seen him eat at all but I noticed a few pieces of lettuce were gone today. Those were the pieces I put on his hammock but the rest, with the mealworms, is on the floor of the terrarium in a dish but he hasn't gone near that. Also he makes cute little squeaking noises when I am holding him sometimes. That's just how they sound when they're hissing as babies right? And lastly is anyone able to tell me how old/what gender he/she is? Thanks so much!

Hi and welcome to the forums, you have come to the right place for everything chameleons. you will find that there is tons of information on here and the members are great.

I would def let your little guy settle in, its not uncommon for them not to eat for the first week or so. if this is the case might be smart to leave the guy comepletely alone as much as you can, this means even just looking at him, another thing you want to pay attention for is drinking.

just to be on the safe side of things since this is your very first chameleon and its very common to be given misleading/wrong information on care for these pets. i ask if you can fill this out to the best of your ability to we can get you on the right track of things from the get go. being as specific as possible and including pics of set up. if you havent already I suggest a good read of the caresheets link provided on the site over on the left hand side.

Welcome to the forums and congrats on your first chameleon. This is a great place to learn about chameleon. Your baby looks very young....maybe a month or two old. The males have a spur (little bump) on the back of their heel on both back feet, the females do not. Your baby should be eating allot of small well gut loaded crickets. Once you get him/her eating crickets then introduce a large variety of feeders. Are you misting and dripping? Do you have a UVB light? I'm attaching my blog for new keepers. It's how I have successfully kept veileds over the years.
