new addition

I haven't posted in a while, but I did add to my flock. I recieved a free bird(who can turn away free?!) from my boss, he is a maximillian pionus. He turned 6 months old on the 15th this month.

He is my special needs boy  he is still hand feeding from time to time, because his bottom beak is split in half. When he was teeny(no feathers) he bobbed on a cage bar and split it. It was a freak accident that none of us had ever seen before.

I make sure He has a soft diet daily(something cooked like rice, beans, and mixed veggies) and soft nuts like cashews and shelled walnut. He is extremely lucky that he maintained the integrity of his jaw bone, so the sides of the bottom can still meet up with the top mandible.

Here's my baby boy Wyatt "Chirp". Yeah I'm a nerd, get off my back!! :D:D

He is very pretty. I used to have a blue and gold macaw. He would follow me everywhere.

Will his beak ever grow back properly?

He is a beautiful bird I took in a cockatoo that the bottom beak had damage similar so my dentist of all people helped me construct him a bottom beak and it brought out a whole new level of confidence in my old bird when he realized he could eat and chew on things! It was awesome!

This is just what I was thinking. It seems like something easy enough to fix with the help of someone like a dentist, and he could have his bottom beak back! If you have a dentist that you go to I might run it by him, you'd be surprised how much people jump at a chance to do something a little different.

But in any case, what a sweet little guy! He looks adorable.

I don't think so. One can only hope and wait I guess.

Thanks everyone :) That is a good idea. The only problem is how small his beak is and I don't want to have to glue any thing to his beak(fumes). I know they probably have composites and such... he is getting by fairly well as is so we will wait and see if a prosthetic is necessary. Good thinking though :)

He sure likes his bathtime doesnt he.
That sux about his beak. But it seems u are taking very good care of him.
I love the pionus family. Very under rated. Wish they were more common.

U mentioned having a flock? What other birds do u have?

Thank you, I love my pionus bunch! They are the best.

I have 2 bronze wing pionus, a Senegal, a red belly female, and a military. :)

NICE. I love poicaphelous(think i misspelled that). I had a senegal that was the nicest bird iv ever met not a mean feather on his body. And redbelly females (although not as pretty as males) are very nice and gentle. I had a wild one that tamed down easy and loved to be around us.

Are the bronze wings pets or are you breeding them?
Have u posted any other pics of your birds?

My senegal is crazy!! lol! I don't know if he is just going crazy or just being "old". He is 15 now. He is freaking loud too! Most people would have kicked him to the curb by now. ha.

My red belly is a gem. She is such a great pet. She talks quite a bit for a female too!

No breeding, I am not sure that my female Odin would breed with my male Loki. She is pretty scared of him and he is very dominant. They are definitely pets. They are still both really young though(3 this year) so it is a possibility.
