Today I picked up my male verrucosus chameleon from Darci. He is looking great! It is taking me forever to reorganize my cage setups and racks, but I will be posting pictures of him and my setup as soon as possible. Currently I am having issues with the basking lamp, its a 60w bulb and is emitting about 96 degrees of heat. I cannot elevate it any higher, so I need to go down in wattage. Anyone have a guess as to how far down I should go? 40w? 20w? Thanks.

Dont suppose u can get the pics with Darci's sister????!!

Just a thought...........

Cant wait to the Cham........

Nice Cush! I think I saw that one in a TikiTiki video. I can't wait to see the pictures!:)

For the lighting...

Try a 40watt and see what you get, but don't be suprized, you may end up with a 25Watt the way this heats been. There are to many variables to tell you that a 40 will drop it by X amount of degrees.

I run 40watt'ers and run the a/c a bit lower on the hotter days. If we get a real heat wave into the 102+ range I will drop to 25watt'ers

Cush- We are in the same location and here is what we use. 40w on males and 25 w on females. Way to hot here in the summer to go above that IMO.

I switched it over to a 40w bulb and now have a basking spot on 90/91 degrees :). Here are some pictures (I am still working on the name)...

Looks good Austin! Glad you like your new cham. It was great meeting you. I was talking to Elise and she thought that was cool that you got one from us! :)

And Brye, be good. My sister is an engaged woman now! LoL!

Looks great man and he is very attractive. I am running 40w in all my tanks atm. I am thinking here in san diego it might be getting close to time to drop to 25. Cages are about 88 in the basking jumping to a high about 91 early afternoon.

Thanks Darci! I couldn't be happier with him. He is settling in perfectly. I still can't believe you went to faith, small world :p.

I didn't really have a choice :p. He was the last male and if I didn't buy him quick, someone else would have definitely jumped on it. These chameleons are awesome and different then the typical veileds and panthers :p

He just ate his first cricket! He's very shy and refused to eat till I left, but when I came back half of it was in his mouth. He also drank loads this morning. At first he was a bit scared of the mister, but after awhile he shoved his head in the spray and drank till satisfied.

You are cool with that basking temp of 96. They will enjoy it. Just make sure they have a place to get away form the heat. Where they come from they can experience temps up to 110f.

I have been keeping my verru's outside now up to the hottest (in the sun) temp of 103. In the shade it gets down to the mid 80's. They are thriving. The goal is just to give them enough to drink. Lots of humidity in the morning and a dripper all day and plenty of shade to hide in and make sure they can cool down at night.

I have basking temps hovering on 90. Is that too cold? If so, then I can put the 60w in no problem. The bottom of the cage is hovering on 71.

That will work fine no need to change it back. 90 on up is fine.

Try one day when it is hot outside. Take him out there and let him bask. The difference in behavior that I have witnessed is night and day. These guys love to be in the direct sun. When the soak up enough down they go to hide in the shade.

I was having problems getting one to eat. Outside for a day solved that.

A chameleon that cane take 110? Hot damn I can keep one outside during the fall!

I want one!

Awesome. I'll bask him in the sun for sure. How do you supplement your verrus?
