I am setting up my jacksons new cage today. I cant decide what will be the best and easiest to maintain for substrate. I have hydro balls and I was thinking about putting those in a pan at the bottom, but I cant decide what to put on top. I was using repti carpet but the became a hassel more than anything. Or if anyone has any better ideas or suggestions. I know dirt substrate is bad, but idk what else to use. One person has suggested jungle bedding but thats still dirt...
Any thoughts, ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

There is a live plant database on the forum here https://www.chameleonforums.com/plants/

Most people on here will advise against substrate, does your tank have a bottom? If so I would just leave it bare as chams don't spend much time on the bottom.

I agree with leaving it bare.. as chams naturally live so high up it appears to them there is no real floor MOST of the time.. pregos and sickly do experience the forest floor though.

And any substrate is gonna be frustrating to clean droppings from.. wat is your cage type?

If u must i would choose hydroballs. Though I'm on the fence about holding the extra moisture and respritory issues..

EDIT: another good plant database http://www.flchams.com/safe_plant_list.asp

My cage is screen on the sides and the top. The door is plexi glass and the frame, bottom, and back are wood. so im nervous about the water from misting and dripper. What ive thought is to put a trash bag as a liner on the bottom, put the hydroballs in it, cover it with a fine mesh, and drill a hole at the bottom of the cage and everything for the water to drain.
