Hi, Im picking up my 2 month old blue bar tomorrow. The guys at the shop suggested me to keep him for a couple of months in a vertically placed fish tank (with uvb, vines etc as in a normal setup..) since I already own a screen cage that's 47x19.6x19.6, that way I wont have to buy another screen cage or exoterra..
thanks for your help

Vertically placed fish tank is not the same as a terrarium- there can be issues :

1) if you place your lighting on top, uv lights get filtered out by glass.
2) the air flow vs humidity may cause issues. You will need to mist less, but the supply of fresh air may need to be adjusted with a fan.
3) set up is important, but make sure you have the essentials: calcium with d3, calcium without d3, and a vitamin dust (and don't forget to gutload your feeders!)

Just food for thought. Have fun with your new Cham! :)

-what if I mist less and still have a dripper(are they called like that??:confused:haha)
-I would keep the tank in a cool room (cool temp. al day, cheked)
- Ibought D3-less calcium, multi vitamins and crickets are packed haha
I was concerned about the tank heating up because of lightbulb /uvb

THANKS!

Can you rig a divider in the big cage so there's not as far to fall?

Or, just make sure that a fall wouldn't result in a hard impact?

Can you use a cup to feed?

If you can cup feed and minimize the danger or a fall, then I doubt there's a reason to avoid the big boy cage.

The biggest reasons I can see for avoiding the big cage with a baby is that they can't find the food and they might fall and hurt themselves. Address those and use the cage you have.

Just my thoughts.

If not: I think you'd be better with keeping the tank horizontal and pulling the lights dramatically off to one side to create air flow.

yeah my concern was him not finding food. I could reduce the space with some nylon screen I bought recently, because
I'm worried he wouldn't get enough air flow in the tank... :/

This is a good suggestion. I would go with the first example and section off the cage.
