Need roach help!

You can't feed them off? Or?
I had gotten a colony of Surinam for variety and when my beardie was a baby and ate roaches (he was depleting my discoid colony). However, by the time my colony got going, beardie decided he wouldn’t eat roaches anymore and the few times I went to grab some Surinam for the chams, the little b**ards were climbing the sides of the bin making a run for freedom. I sold off the colony, but obviously not all of them left.

I used to have escapees from my Surinam tub and finally rubbed a 2" line of Vaseline inside the tub so they can't climb out. No escapees since. In case you want to start a new colony for yourself or to sell, that would solve the escapee problem. No need to dump outside when you've got perfectly good feeders a lizard could enjoy. Just my two cents. 😁

Had anyone ever told me that some day I’d be sorting thru a pile of dirt, separating isopods from roaches, I’d have laughed in their face. If they added that I’d be talking to these bugs whilst sorting them, I’d have escorted them to the nearest psych unit. Yet here I am, living a glamorous life talking to bugs as I sort them from a big pile of dirt.

Too funny!! Every morning I squat in front of my roach bin and sift through it for the best roaches for my girl Sabine. A day in the life!

The many things that chameleon keeping introduces you to. :hilarious:

I like to thank the mommas (dubia) when I take away their babies, for the good job they are doing. Sometimes I realize my employees hear me in there talking to roaches. We are all kindred spirits of insanity!

OMGOMGOMGOMG!!!! I was just finishing setting up Kali’s big girl (bioactive) enclosure and it was time to add one of the small bin of isopods I’ve been keeping. As I’m just dumping the whole bin in, I noticed Surinam roaches! Apparently they’ve been having a good time breeding in with my isopods! As I’ve had the bin of isos for well over a year, I’m guessing the Surinams had time to make a decent sized colony...which is now in Kali’s enclosure! I need help! Do I just leave the roaches there and pray they don’t infest my house or do I take down the whole enclosure and start fresh? Keep in mind I live in Florida. I am so freaking out right now. @jamest0o0 @Persnickety Parson's @Hisserdude @Kaizen

They will wither and die if they don't have access to moist soil, even in Florida. Your fine.

If you have potted plants they will live in those obviously but not a house.

I have lil colonies in all of my geckos enclosure. a few came with some isopods I bought.
I just leave them alone, they help aerate the soil. If they become a problem, I will take the isopods out, get new plants and soil.
They reproduce so fast.

They are pretty amazing and hearty creatures! How are things going? Get all your roaches and isopods sorted out? Fresh new soil for Miss Kali?
Got the bugs sorted best I could. Baby Surinams are so tiny…I saw a couple but they were too small to grab. Threw the soil at the far end of my yard and filled in areas that my dog has torn up. Got the plants to bare root and soaked for hours before blasting with the hose. Guess now I have a Surinam colony again. 🤷‍♀️ Keeping Kali with bare floor for now. She had just settled in her new enclosure and I went and stressed her with removing the root pouch.

Aw I'm sure she'll bounce back just fine. I guess even though you didn't want Surinams they wanted you!
