I know alot of you keep other reptiles so hopefully someone knows what this little guy is. He was wild caught in the utah desert and then dumped at my job.

We looked through the utah listings but didn't find one that really fit his description. He almost looks and acts like a whiptail but the coloring wasn't quite right. We can't release him here so I have to try and care for him as best I can, I don't know why people do this sort of thing.

Brock may just be right. keep in mind that coloring can and often does varie within species even within localities.

First time I saw one of them pretty interesting. I would release him back unless he is injured.

It is one of many species of side blotched lizards, as someone else said... They're all over Southern half of Utah and all of Nevada (probably in AZ, CA, NM etc). There's many locales or subspecies. I have them in my backyard. Desert collareds look similar in base color, but usually have spots and always have a collar. They also have a proportionally larger head.

I would love to release him back but we are a long way from the desert here. I don't think he would make it here in the city its definately not his usual habitat. Hopefully we can find someone heading out there this summer and get him back. I hate it when people catch wild things and then dump them.
