need help deciding

Hello,

So we bought an 18x18x24 exo Terra terrarium and can't decide what will be going in it. I am leaning towards white's tree frogs or day geckos. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm looking for something that will eat the feeders I already keep (crickets, flies, silks, horns, roaches). And would prefer some activity either in the day or evening.

I am leaning toward the White's so far.

Well day geckos sometimes can be a little expensive unless your willing to spend a bit. And my friend owns a whites tree frog and they are completely adorable and fun to hold, they really dont do much during the day, all they do is find a spot and sleep and once they get bigger they like to eat pinkie mice so i would maybe get some pygmies or some cresties although if you do get one of the cheaper day geckos they are still very cute and very pretty but go with what you want, thats just my opinion

I think I want frogs. I have some time to make a final decision though. Still need to get tank all set up and planted.

That tank is a good tank for frogs. Take a look at Joshes Frogs. He always has a deal and you can atleast get some ideas.

Your comment is on this thread in the other pets section. I didn't get much of a response there so I posted it here too.

oh, I didn't notice it was under a different section lol I was well confused, couldn't work out how suggesting you get a tree frog was offensive :rolleyes:

I have decided on the White's tree frogs.

I am going to order the false bottom/substrate kit from josh frogs this weekend as well as plants from both josh frogs and black jungle. I am also getting ghost wood from black jungle. I am going to have a fully planted vivarium and even seed the substrate with springtails. So I should be able to order the frogs in about 4 weeks or so, once the tank gets all established.

:D I AM SUPER EXCITED :D:D:D:D

Ooh, whites tree frogs are so stinking cute! Looking forward to seeing it come together. Hopefully you will post pics

Ooohhhhh they are pretty! what kind of set up do they require? Do you have any pictures of your set up? I am wanting a fully planted tropical vivarium.

Red Eye Tree Frogs and others can live together!!! I once had a tank set up with Anoles, frogs,Fire Belly Toads and even a insect eating green vine snake that all feed on the same feeders used for chems. It was so cool and the anoles even had babies. If set up correctly it can function like a natural Eco system that never needs cleaning and all you have to do is water and feed!!! Just a thought ( a way out out there thought I admit ) Sorry it is late here and I am just running off at the key board!!!:D Probably should delete this but am going to send it anyway

I have seen set ups with day geckos and red eyed tree frogs. I almost considered that. I do plan to try to have a self sustaining vivarium for the most part. According to josh frogs, if you set it up their way the substrate is good for 3-5 years. As I am thinking of the White's frogs, I would be afraid to put anything in there that wasn't just as big as them for fear of them eating it. LOL.

I kept my set up for 3 years and used medium river rock on lowest layer, washed pea gravel on next layer, red river sand, then vermiculite and on top organic top soil, I am not up on the substrate you mentioned but there are lots of options to explore. What ever you do I would love to see pictures as it comes along. I will probably have to do another one after I see yours!!! (It's all your fault) :D

Haha, well I am ok with that. I used to keep all sorts of frogs, from the time I was 5 yrs old up until about 8 years ago. After 8 long years I got the itch and just need to jump back in. Things are so different now though....It is so exciting. :D:D
