I really really really think we should do something about educating the petstores to atleast give caretakers a chance with a proper care sheet and needed supplies.
anyone intrested in this mission with me? I am gonna do this... this is just too much!

I don't know about other forum members, but I make it my mission to educate every pet shop I go into about proper cham care if I see they offer them for sale. I try to be polite, neutral and informative, and offer to help any cham buyers they end up with. I try not to "guilt trip" them or get rude or too pushy. That won't help the chams. If they don't listen and I see their chams continue to be mistreated, I report the shop to whatever local authority manages pet shops (and I tell the shop I am going to do this and send a copy of the letter to them). I also tell them I will not buy any supplies from them in future.
Some shops listen well. I support them by being a regular customer and get to know the staff. You are much more likely to get into a good relationship this way and they'll learn that you are a good source of husbandry info. Win win all around.
