well the mouth being open could be a sign of a respiratory infection.
the mouth discoloration, though its not a good pic, could be mouth rot.
either one, or both, requires a vet visit for medication.

i checked its mouth ..it smells like rotten fish really ...
there are no reptile vets here...i am in egypt
is there anything i can do ..to save it ?

Do you have a vet that specializes in birds?
they are similar.
if you tell the vet the animal has mouth rot (which is sound like it does)
they can prescribe antibiotics,
you should also carefully use a q tip and clean out the crap in his mouth.
just be careful nto to shove it down his throat.

I know baytril is an antibiotic routinely used on chameleons.
HOWEVER, i am not sure how much to give, and you cant get it from a drug store.

BUT, if you see a regular vet, and tell them you need baytril for mouth rot, they might just prescribe it for you.

we dont have any vet who can do reptiles..
people here just keep cat nd dogs ...nothin else ..
its 1 in the million if some1 is keeping reptiles ...
dis antibio is it tablets ??

if you can find any vet who will see you.. doent matter if he specializes in reptiles or not. if you tell him its mouth rot, and you needed a vet and this is drug you need. then he should help you out.

and baytril is a liquid i believe.

the process of force-feeding can damage the mouth and cause infection. mouth rot can be caused by poor nutrition, low temps, and generally bad husbandry (which sounds possible, given how you say the animal came to you). Depending how bad it is, daily topical application of dilute iodine (Betadine), topical Zylofen (Zymox) or a chlorhexidine(Nolvasan) solution can help. With a more serious case, you need a vet or someone to culture the pus /discharge -otherwise you won't know for sure what antibiotic will be the right one to fight the bacteria involved (baytril is commonly used). Is there a clumpy cottage cheese like white material in the animals mouth?

the mouth hanging open can also be related to many other things, like MBD / muscle issues

Welcome to the forum!

Do you keep your chameleon in the house? Does it get any UVB either from the sunlight or a proper UVB light? Do you catch the insects outside or buy them?

It would not be good if the chameleon swallowed the betadine IMHO. If you use a q-tip and make sure its not soaked with it and hold the chameleon with his nose down hopefully you won't get enough in the mouth to be swallowed.

If the mouth rot is bad enough though, it needs to be cleaned out. There pus is like cottage cheese and the antibiotics have a hard time penetrating it...so its usually not enough to just put it on antibiotics. The normal/most common bacteria involved with mouth rot is pseudomonas....and it has a distinct odor to it something like rotten grapes....and usually makes the pus greenish.

i give normal sun light from 3 to 4 times a week
i catch grasshoppers or locusts ..

the odour is like fish or something..
should i stop feeding em ?

No...don't stop feeding them to the chameleon. I only asked about what you fed it to know if they needed to be supplemented or not.

Is there any wheezing sound coming from his mouth when he breaths in and out? Does he hold his nose up in the air when he breaths with his mouth open?

i never heard a sound...but sometimes he holds the nose up high yea

um really worried about this dis coloration its spreading..he got all around his head nd mouth

Can you post another photo please? If its spreading that fast he really needs to see a vet.

If he keeps holding his nose up when he has his mouth open it could be that he is seriously ill....maybe even organ damage from his poor diet/care before you got him.

The lower lip near the corner of his mouth on the right side looks infected...but the rest of it doesn't look bad. There has to be something else going on though....'cause he looks terrible.

There are so many possibilities that I really think he needs to see a vet quickly. Could be something like parasites or he might have ingested an insect that is toxic or it might be from his previous poor care. Wish I could give you a better answer.
