Naming chameleons?

I've never named any of my chameleons. I assign letters to my males, and numbers to my females. I guess I lack creativity.:p I'm considering changing this trend after all of these years. I'd welcome suggestions as to a theme, but nothing too trendy. I loved Breaking Bad as much as the next guy, maybe more, but the thought of another chameleon named Heisenberg is just sad.

I'm currently considering using the periodic table for inspiration, or possibly famous inventors, or physicists. Something science based. Tesla, Einstein, Faraday, for example for males and Curie, Goeppert-Mayer, Sponer for females. That might be a bit obtuse.... The male names are well known, not so much the females. Too bad. Astronauts maybe.....I do aerospace engineering, but again, the female names are few and far between. Starting to ramble sorry....

TIA for any ideas.

I name mine, not that they know it. It helps for vet visits. It helps me organize their family trees (which was important when I was breeding).

It also helps my pet sitters. I use sticky notes to put their names on their enclosures, and then I can leave instructions that warn of their individual particular idiosyncrasies (that Cedric will try to eat your eyeballs so be careful not to look directly at him or wear sunglasses).

I really like the periodic table idea.

Pascal, Rango, Karma... All great chameleon names.

For Tanzanian chams early hominid names would be neat, or maybe just famous anthropologists / biologists who did a lot of work with early hominids / primatologist types. You will at least get some female names.

I personally like the periodic table idea. If you don't use it I may steal it.

1) blue bars: named after sherlock holmes stories 'sherlock' 'moriarty' 'mycroft' 'irene'
2) jax: named after big bang theory 'leonard' 'sheldon' 'penny' 'bernadette' 'leslie'
3) veil: named to personality 'gwen' 'rebel' 'sweet pea' 'isaac (after sire 'newton')'
4) nosy be: names begin w/ be 'benjamin' 'beatrice'
That's how i named mine. makes it easier to recall names quickly when all associated with same theme.

I've used the names of scientists before, I don't care if no one except another biologist has heard of the name. I have had a Linnaeus before, for example. Unfortunately, my favorite medical man of yesteryear (John Hunter) has a pretty bland name, and a chameleon named "Hunter" suddenly seems like a cliche.

But there are plenty to choose from!

I used the highly technical naming choice, at the time I had 3 main spots for hiding in the vivarium. so I assigned them with one of the names i was thinking of left the room came back later and the spot she was at became her name.

We had a theme going for a while- Jimi, Marley, Morrison. We also used to have hamsters we named after rappers until we found out that The Notorious B.I.G was actually female and had 12 babies... A child in my neighborhood named my panther Zeke.

Too funny! I had a dwarf hamster named Puff Daddy! That was well before the P Diddy, Diddy, Sean Diddy, Sean Combs, and whoever he is now days.

My chams are part of the family so of course they have names. I often give them people names and name them after people they were special in my life. Sometime they come with a name too.

I started with Kibi after hearing that name on a radio show (it was a comic performing and I thought the name was pretty cool). After he passed away I got Kimani the veiled which the internet told me was a Yemen name for "Intrepid Traveler". Could be a bunch of bunk, but I like the name anyway. In keeping with the K theme, my newest 2 are Kosby (because he's a colorful and mellow Ambiliobe like his namesake Bill Cosby), and Keeley, named sort of after my cousin-in-law. I kinda wish I had stuck with a better theme than just "K" names, but oh well.
