So I noticed Pasquale's nail has come off his front foot. Is it normal for their nails to come off. Also do they need trimmed. They are long and when he grabs on it hurts.
A good bit of my chameleons nails came off when he was in a screen cage. They get stuck and can come off when they climb the walls. You can provide more branches for him to climb on so hes not on the sides. The loss of nails didnt seem to affect my cham very much.
He has lots of branches but he loves to crawl up the sides of the cage and along the top. He is forever trying to get out. He knows where the door opens and goes to the corner and push on it with his nose. But when you open the door he comes out and I have to put my hand by him cause he sits on the swinging door and I don't want him to fall and he will try to bite.
For a chameleon, a weak grip means falling and possibly death in the wild, so they're always going to grip you as tight as they can. I'd be worried when he grips you and it doesn't hurt a bit, as a weak grip is a sign there is something wrong.
How are the temps and humidity in the cage? If he is constantly trying to get out, there might be something keeping him from getting comfortable.
Any suggestions as to what I can do to make sure it doesn't happen to other nails. He has lots of branches. Maybe I should hang stuff on the inside of the cage??
I re screened my cage with using Type 304 Stainless Steel 8x8 Mesh .017" Dia. Wire .108" opening from Universal Wire Cloth Co. My chams toes will never lose a nail. I don't understand why all Cham cages don't use 8x8 mesh especially ones like Dragonstrand or LLL or DIY I understand Reptibreeze
