I've had my chameleon 5weeks now at first she was eating crickets fine but then i tried Mia (her name) lol on hoppers and now all she will eat is hoppers and wax worms. She's 3 and a half months old. I was getting really worried so took her to the vets, my vet says she's very healthy and the reason why she wont eat the crickets is because i've spoilt her, lol. He says to just leave Mia's crickets in her bowl and not feed her hoppers/wax worms for a couple of days and then only give her them as treats. I've tried but by the end of the day she aint touched her crickets so i feel sorry for her and give in with the hoppers. Any ideas on how to get her back on to crickets?? Please give me ideas, this is my first chameleon i don't want her to get ill, she's my little buddy lol. x

personally i hate crickets and am really glad that Mista hates them lol.
He much prefers locusts and morio worms.
The waxies should only be fed rarely as treats.
one good thing as well with locusts is they can stay free range and will not bite whereas crickets have a tendency to nibble.
As long as you are gut feeding your hoppers theres no need to worry.

Hugo my male veiled was fed crickets until he was about 6 months old, and then I gave him a few locusts, and now he refuses crickets! Apparently they can be a little bitter (who found this out I don't know!) but they can also bite the cham. I just feed Hugo locusts now and he's happy enough.

Locusts are a fine feeder. But you should feed her at least 3 defferent kinds of bugs. Ex: Locusts, Roaches, Flies, Silkworms, Hornworms, Crix, & waxworms. Your in the uk. You can can get mantids and mantis! Try giving her a green mantid or mantis. They go crazy for green bugs.

Let her starve

It is your fault for feeding prey that they dont normally eat in the wild both those feeders should only be used as treats just leave the crickets in the cage and when she gets hungry enough she will eat them. Make sure that she gets enough water. Veiled's can go for along time without eating so a couple days should be okay remember it is for the good of the animal

The hoppers i use are only little, i would never give her anything that is to big for mia, she would choke. Thanks for every1s feed back. x

You can try feeding your crickets different fruits/citrus to make them taste different. Its good to mix it up anyway to get a varied diet and so your cham doesn't associate the crickets with a specific taste. They can get bored of certain tastes or become picky eaters, especially if there is something yummier on the menu.
