My veiled is sick.

Well regarding getting him out of the viv, as has already been mentioned you can use gloves so that you won't be worried about getting bitten. Try to be calm and move slowly. Chameleons should not be grabbed from above because that would really really freak them out. you need to slip your hand underneath him while coaxing him forward with a gentle nudge from behind... or you may have more luck getting him onto a stick rather than your hand. That way you can still remove him from the viv and see him close up to check him over. So long as you keep him held up high he should not feel to threatend....I am sure lots of other people will reply with more advice too. I hope that he is not too poorly!

Good advice!

Sometimes If Leo is adamant about not being removed (He acts like he is going to step onto my hand only to step over quickly, I will use my other hand as a distraction. He will then focus on the crazy movement that one is doing and i can scoop under him easier. Again, I only do this if necessary. Leo prefers things on his terms.

I really really hope that the Pet store does something. They should have some health guarantee if they are worthwhile. Who knows though.. This is all the more why Hubby and I want to open a mOm N Pop Pet store.. to properly advise people and not just sell what we can get out of the door..

I hope the Vet goes well!!

Well, came home from school at noon and he seemed fine. he had eaten the remaining five crickets left in his cage. I had to pick him up with a glove but when I had him he didn't get fussy and was fine thereafter.

I took him down the street to the vet who saw me right away. He took a look at him, asked me about fecal, diet, lighting etc. He said by examining him he thinks he's perfectly fine, just seriously stressed. I told him of the conditions he was in when I bought him, and he said that he it was most likely because of this.

a) he was housed with another veiled in a tiny glass tank with nothing to climb on and it wasn't very high at all.
b) the pet shop employee pretty much grabbed him from above fast and hard to get him out of the tank so i assume that was how he was handled most of the time. I'm sure he didnt appreciate being yanked out of the tank like that.
c) that place had tons and tons of noisy kids running around past the area where he was kept.

So what now? how do I at least get him to chill out? I don't want his stress to compromise his health.

If you read the first post, I already have all that. lol.

I pretty much researched myself, and came here and read up on things and got his environment perfect. but hes still stressed from the abuse at the pet store, and that's my problem.

Try leaving him alone as much as you can for awhile.....other than feeding and cage cleaning. That should help with stress.

Sorry, I thought you said you had a glass tank with a 75 watt bulb.

like jannb said leave him alone and let him get used to his new environment, dont try and handle him for a good couple of weeks. aslong as hes eating and drinking then he shud be ok.
