My veiled is laying eggs right now! Whats next?

*********** 30 eggs !!! Shes in bed and will eat tomorrow!**** ty all!!! Hole depth totaled out to be 7 1/2'' deep! I started a hole about 3 inches deep before she dug in!**************

Wow after 4 hours of digging in the sand and a long 45's minutes my female is laying her first batch of unfertile eggs as a under a year old chameleon.

This is my first time seeing and offering a egg laying bin!''

Questions!''


HOw long will she lay eggs?

When do I remove her?

Food reccomendations?

What to so with unfertile eggs eat em!

Congrats!

The amount of time spent laying will depend on how many eggs she has in her. You'll want to give her plenty of time. After she's done you'll hear her shoveling dirt back on top of the clutch. After it's all done with you can remove her right away and see to it that she gets a ton of hydration as well as a healthy meal. Silk worms are great, or some well fed dusted crickets. She needs to make up for the lost vitamins etc. Hydration is very key here though, not just the food.

As far as the eggs, I wouldn't count any as infertile until you see them begin to die after attempting to incubate them. Sometimes they may look like a 'bad' egg, but it's not always the case.

Thanks for the input, she lives alone so there's no male to fertilize the eggs. Its 1am now and I need to get to bed.... should I leave her light on for another hour as i go to sleep? And tomorrow she will be done? Don't really want to leave her in the dark..... I know about needing proper nutrition and water. Lots of energy laying those eggs.

Haha I'm sorry, I totally skipped over were you mentioned they were infertile.

I would give her a little more time with the light on to finish up, just to be safe. Sounds like you are on top of your game, and are doing a great job.

A lot of chams lay at night when there is no one around to watch and they are safer in the dark.

Mine has been wandering the bottom of the cage for at least a week of 2 now. NOw she finally did something in the sand bin. My gf was the one who suggested to put her in it this sunday afternoon! thank you gf!

thats great! i still remember the first time i saw one of my females lay its the most exciting moment I've ever had since i started with chameleons! they are just like dinosaurs

Ok, it is all done. It is 1 in the morning and I am going to sleep

Just want to mention that you shouldn't let her see you watching her when she is digging...and you shouldn't disturb her or move her when she is in the hole (unless maybe the hole caves in on her head). You can push her to egg binding and she may not finish laying the eggs either.

She should lay the eggs (all of them) and fill the hole in, tamp it down and return to the branches.

She should be hungry and thirsty...and likely tired after she is done. Feed her and water her well for a couple of days. I then cut back on the feeding somewhat to try to keep the clutches small or non-exsistant.

Oh my gosh! 30 eggs!!! I never thought that she will carry 30 eggs inside her, my guess would have been 5-10 eggs. I'm so glad that this is over, and she won't become egg bound now. Also I was super lucky that I was there for most of the evening, and saw her digging. Congratulations !!!

Actually 30 eggs is a small clutch for veiled. They are known for lots of eggs, i am talking 60 or 70. That is why you wait until the cover the eggs to make sure they are done.

I took her out right after she was covering them up with her lil feet.

And yes as noted on the bottom of my first post, I know its a bad Idea to look.
