Hey everyone,
I have a veiled about 1 year has him about 7 months and in the last week his horn has been growing a little crooked and was just wondering if anyone has seen this before or knows what it is caused by. He is in a large 40 Gallon cage with an extended mesh top thats about half the size of his tank. Just concerned hes not getting enough vitimins or something.. if anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appriciated...
Thanks

Are you sure you have a veiled? They don't normally have horns. Jackson's have the horns. Do you mean his casque is growing crooked?

Please fill this out and maybe take a few pictures of your chameleon

There is no such thing as a large 40 gallon tank when you are talking about chameleons. Male veiled at that age should be in a cage 2'x2'x4'. Even if it's not a veiled (and your description raises some questions), a 40G tank is too small.

BigR if you could please tell me why my cage is too small when its a 40 gallon with a large mesh enclosure in addition on top of the cage. My cham is like a blip inside you cant even find him half the time. and just because im talking about a chameleon doesnt mean that a certain type of cage doesnt exist

post the dimensions of your enclosure. Both the base and the topper. 40 gallons is 40 gallons, no matter what you put in it.

i will have to take some photos tonight to upload tomorrow and all the rest I dont know off by heart but i will let you know
Thanks

I am aware that there is such a thing as a 40 Gallon tank. I am stating that a 40 gallon tank is of inappropriate size for an adult veiled chameleon.

The veiled I was watching for my neighbors had/has a messed up casque from the heat and MBD she had.

You should really check your temps closely and see if the heat buildup of the glass enclosue isn't causing the problem, that would be my guess. A lot of the other more experienced keepers here can give you a better answer after you answer the questionaire.

After I filled that out in detail I got very detailed responses and and some really amazing help. Good luck, I hope you figure out the problem.
