My Veiled died

Hey guys first time posting so all help is much appreciated. I recently had a male veiled die in a matter of two days. I say that because he was perfectly healthy and then one night I noticed him having issues climbing around or moving for that matter, and the next morning woke up to find him laying iIN his water bowl. He made it one more day after that but basically just laid on the floor of my screen mesh cage. I had humidity issues but didn't think they were severe. What could cause such an instant decline in health? Humidity? Dehydration? Feeding?

dehydration mabey...your suposed to mist not use water bowls. he could have drown also. idk tho. im sorry for your loss.

first welcom to the froum, sorry this has to be your first post.
it is very hard to say, as chameleons are masters of hiding issues untill it is often too late.
it would help if we new your basic husbandry, i will attach a list of questions here.

oh there you go camimom beat me too it lol
i kinda doubt the drowning as you said he was ill before then found in the water, then ill for another day, i cant imagine it helped tho, as stated water bowls are not typical used for chameleons

Hello and welcome! Unless he drowned, as it's been suggested already I doubt the cause of death was because of your care, even if not perfect.. Some more experienced member can tell better than me, but 2 days of not proper care seems a real short period of time to kill your cham, even though they can be effected about that and "deteriorate" quiet quickly if there's something wrong.
Hope you'll find all the helpful informations you need here and you'll try again.:)
Doing research makes your life so much easier and will ensure your chameleon a happy and healthy life! Good luck;)

2 days is quite a fast deterioration, sounds to me as if he may have fallen into the water bowl, and drowned

how big, deep was this water bowl??

normally we use drippers, and misting to administer water..

sorry for your loss, its harder than most think to lose a cham.

I am sorry for your loss, was this your first Chameleon? Like the others have said, 2 days is too quick for it to have been something in your husbandry..... can you post a picture?

I'm sorry for your loss, if you post your husbandry set up and care regieme, maybe some members here could tell how he died. But yeah water bowls serve no purpose for a chameleon, drippers, hand misters are misters like mistking are better for chams.

The fact that you have a water bowl (which you should NOT) likely means that there are other problems with your husbandry.

If he died that fast, I can almost guarantee you that he was either a) sick when you got him or b) your setup was wildly is incorrect.

2 days is very fast for him to die though...can you submit a picture of your setup?

Thanks everyone never thought I would get so many responses so fast. To answer a few questions... I had a mesh cage with cocunut substrate on the ground along with the small water bowl (only to catch excess water from dropper. Had the tropical zoo med long fluorescent along with 75 watt incandescant and exo terra vines spread throughout at many diff heighths. Had the little dropper he was accustomed to drinking out of dripping from top. Humidity was an issue but I didn't think it was severe as I read veileds are more resiliant than other chams when it comes to humidity. It dropped down pretty low more than a few times. Had two artificial plants and the cage dimension was 18 long by 28 high and 16 wide (inches). Let me know if I can help in figuring thi tragedy out by answering any other q's. Humidity did drop below thirty at least a few times.

I was scared that you'd mention substrate, substrate is a no no, maybe its possible it died from impaction by swallowing the substrate. Before it died, was it pooping ok or notice any constipation problems. Sometimes chams can either eat the substrate out of being curious of eat it by zapping its food.

coconut bark would be a hard digest did he often eat from the ground level of his terrrairum? thinking maybe he caught a peice of bark instead of the feeder and had digestiing issues?

how old and how long did you have him? you should just fillout the form so we don't have to keep asking questions!! What kind of UVB? but what supplements and how often??

The coconut substrate is very fine so I doubt he would get blocked up... He fecal matter looked perfectly normal as well.

im guessing substrate like chameleonfan it looks cool but the various issues with substrate is swallowing or tongue breaking issues i use old towels soft for falling purposes live plants definatly help with humidity but a humidifier is the best way to go if u had humidity issues !
