My Veiled Chameleon wrists look broken?? not his legs.

I've had him for about 10 months now. But about 3 months ago, I notice his "wrists" seem fractured. He doesn't show any sign of aggression towards it, should I take him to the vet? I took him to the pet store and they said he may have fallen and would heal on its own.

If its broken it will heal on its own but for peace of mind I would recommend a vet check

What supplements do you use on your feeders, and how often? Do you have a UVB light, and how old is the bulb? Sometimes if they don't get enough D3 they can get MBD, which weakens their bones. Another issue that could show swelling around the joints is gout.

If you want sound advice, fill out the how to ask for help form, and then post pictures of the wrist that is showing problems, or just take him to the vet as stated before.

if your seeing deformation in both joints , it could be mdb.. pet shops are famous for not knowing much about the reptiles they sell.. vets is required in my opinion

If you noticed 3 months ago it's too late now to do anything about the fractures themselves, but yes, this could be a sign of metabolic bone disease, which is serious, and a vet will be able to help you treat it if that's the case. This can lead to many more fractures and deformities.

Do you have any photos of him so we can see what you're seeing?

I have a UVB and a UVA light. I also dust the crickets with calcium with D3. I will post some pictures after school.

Can you post some pictures of his limbs please? How old is your UVB light? Was it brand new when you started using it? He should not be getting calcium with d3 all the time. It should be a plain calcium with no d3. Too much artificial d3 is not a good thing. It should not cause MBD, but can cause other health issues. Use the d3 a few times a month. Do you gutload your feeders properly?

The photos are coming out very blurry and grainy on my phone, so I'll let someone else touch upon that, but a few critical points:

He looks pretty dehydrated in the photo. What is your humidity level at?

What is the UVB output, style, and brand of bulb?
-you should have 5.0 or 10.0 UVB output; T8 or T5 bulbs are better than coiled (spiral) bulbs; ReptiSun is better than ReptiGlo

How old is the bulb?
-they need to be replaced every 6 months. Even if they light up, they're not emitting UVB.

What are you gutloading feeders with?
-the dry powder and jelly cubes they sell at pet stores are useless; if you're not gutloading properly, it's just like feeding them junk food (no nutrients)

You need plain calcium with no phosphors or D3 every feeding.
-not enough calcium will cause the degenerative, MBD.

D3 should only be given twice a month or so.
- too much will cause health problems with symptoms that mirror MBD.

MBD is degenerative
-it gets worse over time; there is no cure: all you can do is stop it from progressing. It will eventually get bad enough to the point of death.
