We're all in agreement that you've got to get rid of that "UV/Heat lamp"
return it to the store and get your money back!
(there's lots of reasons we don't need to go into now but they are NOT for chameleons)
good news, I believe This is still a recoverable situation.
He's certainly affected with MBD.
IF you go to a local pharmacy there is a high bioavailable calcium
liquid product intended for children (eye dropper) it may be mixed with glycerin.
I don't know the name of it off hand but I know - it's available. ask the pharmacist.
Give him that mixed with some "gatoraid™" (yellow and orange flavor)
screen cage.
"tube" type lighting (reptisun 5.0)
40-60 wt "natural light" style bulb for heat.
sunlight is crucial
natural light directly on this fella... not through glass
through a screen if you must
He's going to be weak and not wanting to move around much
so if you have a bushy potted plant or small tree
stick him in that and let him bask DIRECTLY in the sun
and process that calcium if he feels like moving into the shade - let him.
he he opens his mouth and tries to get into the shade.. help him a bit.
the eye issues are not the main worry
they can bulge and retract those eyes
at best it can mean that he wants to get the full 360 view because it's not feeling well
and wants to see EVERYTHING that is happening around him.
at worse it's a dual infection that can be cleared up when the immune system is back and functioning. (later)
yes, dusted crickets
if you want. I would take a syringe with a large gauge needle (turkey injector)
and stick a vitamin slurry into a medium sized (minerall yellow top
and rep-call pink and blue label)hornworm or silkworm
I fill those things up when I really want to vitamin up a chameleon.
now his legs won't straighten out
and the casque is going to be "imperfect" but if this is all done right
you'll have a happy animal in a week... I've seen worse recover and live happy lives.

Hey judging bye the pic it definetly makes it mbd and his eye is sticking out quite far, so the best thing to do is a exotics vet appointment which you have already so post about it when yoou get back from the vet,
My female veiled also went throught mbd i took it to a exotics reptile pet shops so i bought T-REX liquid D3 I gave 1-2 or 3 drops a day oh and you put it in its mouth, and it worked within a month and she could walk again quite fine but the bumps dont go away she is still alive to day it happened when she was 5 mnths old and I think we just got her treated just at the right time if we waited longer she wouldnt have made it.

The vet took one look at Buddy and knew he was suffering from MBD. He also flushed-out both his eyes to see if debris was to blame. There was nothing in Buddy's eyes and the vet offered no explanation for the puffiness. He gave him a Vitamin D injection and an injection to stimulate his appetite. I was sent home with two oral calcium medications and eye drops to help with the inflammation. Buddy went home very tired and I have him resting safely in a bowl in his cage. All he wants to do is walk around, but his bones are like China easily broken. My poor little guy.
I have a question though. Buddy is unable to eat on his own and I'm not sure what to do. I have been giving him water with an eye-dropper to keep him hydrated, even since I saw that he was not drinking on his own. At the house I have mealworms (fed on occasion) and crickets (fed daily), but he can't use his swollen tongue. What should I do?

remember to put supplements on his food 2-3 times a week.
Sounds like he will be better in a few weeks, what did the vet say about the toung?

I would say if he does eat you should supplement even if hes on medication.
You can because hes sick maybe do it for 3 days so lets say you can lightly dust with vit D3 half of all the crix mealworms and whatever in his feeding time for the day, do this on Monday, Thursday and Sunday, Calcium with out vit D3 only 2 days a week on Tuesday and Saturday( this is only an example maybe some other people can also give you some ideas.)
Anymore questions just ask.

I wouldnt know anything about the bug juices thing, but the supplements I was talking about is a powder you can buy from a pet store that sells reptile accesories, i cant realy rememba bout the brands but if you ask 1 of the workers for reptiles they should know what your talking about ask for Calcium powder with vitamin D3 and Calcium powder without D3 and just follow a schedule like the egzample i gave you.
But I know some other people will know about the bug juices thing, Im gona check it out now so I can maybe help you understand.

My Buddy is doing better now. He is looking stronger each passing day and a real trooper. I was wondering though, will he have problems in the future from his MBD and bowed legs? I'm not sure what to expect later on down the line for my little guy. Anyone else with a MBD survivor?

That is great to hear. Im glad you found this place in time. How long has it been since you started treatment. Ive heard people say they live normal lives after its been fixed. They will just have the malformed bone structures but they will be strong bones. Is he eating on his own.

Buddy has been on a stick medication schedule since Wednesday of last week. He is getting used to having things dropped into his mouth and eyes now. His tongue is still a bit swollen, so I am still having to force feed him and eye drop water. I'm afraid that if I try to let him eat on his own he either won't be able to or his tongue may suffer injury. It is my hope that his bones do heal well and he isn't stunted in any way. Feels like he is my first kid.

My female went through it when she was 5 mnths and shes very healthy today the only thing is that she has the bulges in her legs, other than that she still lives normaly and so will yours, a person told me that sometimes if they have had bad mdb they cant reproduce but Im not sure if thats all true, ,my female (that suffered mdb) has receptive colours.

I am still having tongue problems with Buddy. Ever since he became sick, his tongue has been sticking out like a pug. The tip of his tongue is always exposed and therefore is dry and has a blackish color to it. Last night Buddy literally just let his tongue hang out from his mouth, but then retracted it. The tongue itself looked a bit purple in color. I am concerned and wonder when or if its function will return. I know that his problem is related to his MBD and I am trying hard to make his like better. Anyone else with experience in this matter?
