I was tending to my B. dubia roach colony today and my wife snapped this:

This is a picture of my son, Evan (2.5yrs), holding a large female B. dubia roach. I like this photo because I'd never hold one without gloves, but he loves it. I have a very mild insect phobia where I'm totally into insects, but I just can't stand to have them on me. Good times!

That reminds me of when my neighbor's boys came over to look at the chams. They wouldn't leave till I gave them a super worm to take as a pet

This kid is putting together full sentences and everything. It's an interesting thing to watch him grow. He's really into rocks, animals, cars, and climbing (I caught him standing on his dresser the other day!). We'd love to have you and you always have a place to stay for as long as you like.

I'm really interested in coming out to see Florida. I've just got to figure out when I can designate enough time to do so. I'm pretty sure you're in the same boat.

Just about all insects aren't half as bad as people make them out to be. I don't think they're bad at all, but I damn near had a stroke when one almost crawled into my glove.

Thanks. Fear is learned and we try our best to keep him from fearing things that are harmless. It can be tricky when it comes to animals though; snakes is a good example.

It is great that you are trying to teach that adorable little guy not to be afraid of the world. He is so cute, but I just couldn't hold one without gloves once they get neat that size. The dubia sure takes away for the picture. shudder shudder

I came across this old thread while researching for the colony starter 0f 24 that I just picked up. The research has shown me that I had ALL females.

Kids are fearless!! Better than me , i'll hold them but they are very clingy ans that skeeves me out.

Cute kid. He sorta looks like the kid from "The Sixth Sense"
