He looks very doleful in that second photo. I like to find the pieces after the shed and identify where they came from - foot (tougher skin), back (can see the spines), etc. For a few years I was scrupulously collecting shed skin for teaching - certain aquatic fungi (chytrids) eat keratin, and you can use lizard skin or snake skin as bait to attract and catch the fungi from ponds, etc. I now have something like a lifetime supply.
