My poor new chameleon, died.

After having the chameleon for 2 1/2 weeks she suddently died. I really have no clue why.

She was eating pinhead crickets and pheonix worms on a daily basis, she ate great the day before I found her dead.

I have proper lighting and humidity control. I thought i was doing everything right...

Baby Chameleon (Rio)

Setup:
Small Repti-Breeze Cage
35 Watt Basking bulb
Reptisun 5.0, brand new with hood.
Dripper that consantly drips into a drainge system.
Misted 2-3x a day.
Calcium without d3
Follage and limbs to climb on( schefflera
Humidity guage
Small feeding bowl

The day before she died she was eating normally and drinking normally, she was climbing the entire cage all day. I found her at the bottom of the cage the next day.

This has kinda discouraged me into getting another one.

I have never failed to take care of my pets, I have 4 bearded dragons that i've had for 5+ years.

Im really sorry she died.

What was your basking temperature?

If you had her for that short amount of time, she could have been sick before hand.

FOr future reference, that temp can be up to 82-84.

But again, that wont kill her.

Sounds like you unfortunately got a sick chammie.

DId you purchase from a pet store?

Sounds like maybe sick before you got her. Thats what happened to my first chameleon, it was a little baby boy vieled. Had him for three weeks and gone.

But dont give up. make sure you buy from someone with a good rep, and just tweak and peek you cage setup. i would fill out a how to ask for help form and have people critque it so you can make the best for your next one

Something very similar happened to me, though my baby veiled didn't have as much of an appetite as she should have. What we (other more experienced chameleon owners and myself at the time) came to, was that she probably had some kind of parasite. I had her for two weeks, like you. It's devastating, sorry for your loss.

Isn't that a bit high for a female veiled small enough for pinheads?

Edit: I think with the name "Rio" I assumed veiled, my apologies. Jackson's like cooler temps.

Just because the cham was getting pinheads, doesnt mean it was that small.

and 78 is too cold for a cham that is older than 2 months.

OK. i see what happened now.

You were sold a baby WAY WAY WAY too early.

Jax are NOTORIOUS for SIDS. Until they are at least 4-5 months old.

I can almost guarantee the stress of moving her from where she was born to you killed her.

Where do you see 2 months? I'm trying to re-search the thread

It didnt say, but most hcams are sold around that age unless they are beyond stupid. (the seller not the buyer)

and now i see why the cham died,
way to young to be sold.

So sorry for your loss, I do know that up until the 4th or 5th months is very critical with Jackson's and have been told several times to try and get one at least 4 months old, I think being that so very young, anything could have caused the death....RIP little baby girl.

It was a baby Jacksons chameleon. about a week old before i got her, so she was amost 4 weeks old.
I think she was just way to young. not sure

I think it depends my female actually was climbing the screen to get closer to the basking light and my temp was 81 degrees, so i think it depends

Don't blame yourself, very young chameleons, like the one you were sold, are VERY delicate. Any small stressors (like, for instance, being moved from where they were born, as said) can mean issues.

Here's some info if you wanted to read up. I definitely recommend shooting for an older cham, maybe 4-5 months, to buy. Again, very sorry.

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Baby jacksons chameleon, about 4 weeks old, been in my care for 2 1/2 weeks.
Handling - I didn't handle it very much, not more than 10 minutes every other day or longer.
Feeding - I was feeding my chameleon pinhead crickets and pheonix worms. I put enough in her bowl everyday I feed her in the morning and around the afternoon/nightish? Gutloaded with fruits.
Supplements - Using duster with d3 everyday
Watering - I have a dripper with a drainage system that prevents water from sitting in the cage. I mist between 2-3 times day for 10 minutes each and I do see my chamelon drinking alot
Fecal Description - white and black droppings, never been tested for parasites, only had her for a short period.
History - Bought her from a pet store.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) Screen. small repti-breeze cage.
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? Regular basking bulb and reptisun 5.0
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
tempature is from 78-80 basking. I measured with a temp gun.
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
They jumped to about 80 when I misted. using a humidity guage.
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
schefflera
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?

it's located in another room by it self.
Location - Where are you geographically located?
Georgia<USA

FOr future reference:

Jacksons are easily over supplemented.. They dont need d3 every day, or even every week.. every 6 weeks is normal.

And, its best to not feed at night or even late afternoon, as they need the heat to digest properly.

THis was not your fault.. even if you did this every day for amonth, it probably wouldnt kill her.

I think you just got her way way way too young.
