im sitting in my living room and all of a sudden i see my panther wripping bark off a piece of wood i have in the terrarium. i tried to distract him from doing it because i thought he was eating it. when i tried to get his attention by pulling his tail a little bit he would stop for a couple of seconds and then start wripping bark off again with more aggression. i thought he was eating it so i got worried and gave him a worm. he ate the worm and tried to rip off some more then stopped..... i have no idea what he was doing because this is the first time i see something like this happen.....

does anyone know why my cham did that??????????????????

help please

Take it out, he may see it as a threat, or he could be trying eat it. Either way it's bad.

I agree, take it out. I've seen this before where the chameleon ate the bark, became impacted and died. (Not my cham, someone elses.) Also he could damage his mouth on the bark.

I have seen juveniles do this when they get nervous. It could have been your presence in the room, or something else, either way your chameleon was most likely feeling uneasy about something. Don't try to distract him or pull on his tail, your only stressing him more. Make sure the cage is in a low traffic area, and elevated high in the room.

i peeled off all the loose bark....i think thats good enough....theres nothing he can swallow now..

I don't know what to tell you about your cham's behavior, but I love your avatar!:)...

Panther chameleons have been known to try to eat the bark...and yes, they can ingest it and it might lead to an impaction. Not sure why they do it.

i woke up this morning my cham was fighting with the stick again even after i peeled off the bark.....i took the peice out and now hes so relaxed... basking in the sun and its the whitest i have ever seen him.....
