My new Diego Suarez (Antsiranana) pair

I dont see too many of this locale around and when I saw this insane looking male I couldnt resist! He walks around almost completely RED! his lateral stripe and along his crest gets alot of blue in it too. He already eats from my hand. The female is a lot less friendly:rolleyes::D

I cant wait until it starts warming up so I can keep them outside and get some better pics.

I agree with Jeremy, since I saw them they look more like maroantsetras than Diegos. They look great any way.

Its a possibility that theyre not, but thats what they came to LLL as...

My first batch of Panthers (1994) I ever kept were Diego Suarez Panthers and they were small for panther and mostly orange and yellow and a bit of red if I recall correctly. Yours you have got are Hell Red and I have never seen a Diego Suarez with any near where that much red. That one is competing with Tamtatava's and Maroansatras.

Maroantsetra are a fluorescent orange, not red. Maybe your thinking of Masoala, but they on the other hand have a lot of white with the red. Doesn't look Tamatave either, tamatave most often have green with the red.

This has blue bars, which none of the other locales listed show.

Its a new locale:D;) who knows where they could have come from...there are so many color variations in this species from one village to the next. All I know is that the male is gorgeous!

No No you are off my friend they can be extremely red. I had a giant WC red Maroantsetra named Big Red who was fire hydrant red and was way to big to be a Tamatave and was not a Masoala. This was 1996 though.

Paul's correct though he's got a great pair! Especially is you want a red chameleon.

For what it's worth, that shipment came in with those red ones, Nosy Be, Ambanja, and possibly Sambava males. None of them was labeled so the females are a crap shoot but your female does look more east coast than west to me so hopefully they're the same. If you want more, there's another pair for sale at Pet Kingdom down by Sea World, too. The male looks just like yours, already, though.

They're beautiful!!!! I can't tell you how happy I am that someone who knows what they're doing picked this pair up. They're too pretty to disappear.

Thanks you guys. I recently got some very helpful info from an expert identifying pardalis color variations, he is a breeder of many species of chameleons that actually lives in Madagascar.

Congratulaions showjet beautiful panther. It looks like tamatave a nice one. I know were not allowed to guess but thats what I think.

The male down here by me came in looking really red like that but after a few days he started relaxing into the more typical green mottled pattern we're used to in Tamataves. Now he's usually half red half green.

Interesting what Olaf said about true Antsiranana panthers being exported. It's been a long, LONG time since I've seen the crazy neon green and red ones that fired up orange that Jeremy spoke of. At least since the 90's. Crazy how much has changed over the years....we used to get Nosy Boraha, true Antsiranana, etc. but no one had even seen Ambilobe, Mitsios, or Falys yet (at least in the states). When's the last time Maroantsetras came in?? And every year for the last 20+ we've gotten Nosy Be's and Ambanjas...

Interesting... I would love to get my hands on a group of boraha, my favorite of locales.
