Hi everyone, thought I would introduce myself and my new chameleon's. I've been a reptile hobbyist off and on for over twenty years. Lizards have always been my favorite and chameleons have always been my favorite lizard...but these are my first chams.

Nice :D Just make sure there is good ventilation in the females habitat so she doesn't get a URI, veileds are arid arboreal chameleons.

Thanks everyone, I will heed your warning justjumpit621 and keep an eye on the female's habitat. She will only be in the terrarium for another week. I'm moving the male into a 24x24x48 screen enclosure and then the female will move into the 24x24x36 screen enclosure. The Zoo Med terrarium has organic soil on top of a piece of substrate mesh, on top of the Zoo Med Hydro Balls. This seems to work very well as the substrate dries quickly. I currently have an Exo Terra Monsoon misting 4 times a day for 12 seconds and the Little Drippers are filled once each day.

I run my UVA and UVB bulbs on a 12 hour cycle. Would a 14 hour light cycle be detrimental to their well being? This would give me more time after work to check on them.

I run my UV light for about 12 hours, and the heat/light lamp however long I need to. If scheduling is a concern you can get a timer at most hardware or department stores for under $10.

It should be fine to leave it on for 14. Now... Do you know the supplement schedule for veileds?=)

I've been supplementing with calcium (no D3) every feeding and calcium with D3 and a vitamin supplement once every two weeks. I'm feeding mostly crickets (I'm breeding my own) but I also tried meal worms, smaller horn worms, wax worms and silk worms as treats. I gutload all my feeders with uncooked oatmeal, Rhapsody Gutload and Fluker's Cricket Quencher with Calcium.

Thanks AllFallDown, I do use a digital timer for my lights but a 14 hour cycle would give me time at the end of the day to check temperatures and humidity before they go to sleep.

Sounds good! just cut back the multivitamin to once a month, and don't give the d3 and the multivitamin together, they sort of cancel each other out.

Good to know, thanks!

Welcome! What other reptiles do you have? Is that a leopard gecko enclosure under the female's viv?

Thank you, yes that is a leopard gecko enclosure. I have 2 leopard geckos a bearded dragon and I will soon have a tokay gecko once I move my female veiled out of the terrarium.

Lovely chameleons - sounds like you are doing a great job.

I don't understand this? I use the Repashy all-in-one - with viatmins and vitamin d - nothing is cancelled out. Is there a link or something regarding this with more info?

i agree. My chams have been thriving much better with way more frequent use than once a month. And d3.

The tokays are so beautiful! I always want to rescue the ones at Petco, I'm fairly sure they haven't sold any of them since we moved here in November. I tried to buy the big old guy once but the clerk said he wouldn't feel happy selling him, he's just too aggressive! Salesman fail... common sense win... I've heard they are easier to handle if you get them younger though.

I was told this a while ago in another thread, so it's just something I stick by. Also the multivitamin once a month is just a regime most veiled and panther keepers use on here that is a proven good method to use. For nutrition information check out Sandrachameleon's blogs, they have a lot of great information and might clarify on the vitamin A/D3 thing: https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/

Ah yes! Down here at the D3 and vitamin A sections: https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/65-supplements.html

Tokays are beautiful and aggressive. I had one that grew into a giant and he was extremely aggressive, but i loved him for it :) I kept two in a really big enclosure and if I put a finger inside the enclosure he would charge at me with his mouth open, barking. My other Tokay was very docile and I believe a female.
