My New Baby Veiled

My Chamelon

Hello! I recently got a new baby veiled chameleon, and she's been doing well. I just had some questions, especially regarding substrate and things at the bottom of her enclosure. Right now I have a mulch/soil mix I got from petco, and no substrate. I'm worried about mold and bacteria growing there, also the crickets hiding. I also had some more questions in regards to humidity. How much should it bet at? And how many times should I mist? Also, how long should I let my dripper going? I know these are a lot of questions, but I keep seeing several answers for some of these questions. Thanks for any answers you have!

Welcome to the forums and congrats on your baby girl. I love veileds and have been keeping them for years. They are one of my favorite species because of all the personality they have. It's best to keep the bottom of your cage bare. You can keep it cleaner that way and don't have to worry about your little one eating something and becoming impacted. Veileds will eat all kinds of things they are not suppose to especially the girls. I live in FL and don't have to worry about humidity much. Veileds do not require as high humidity as some species. When you mist it should spike around 60 to 70 and it's safe to drop in the 30's between mistings. Do you have a misting system or misting by hand? If by hand three times a day should be enough for a young veiled. I always drip for about an hour after each misting. Misting gets them in the mood to drink and then they will often drink for a good while from the dripper, after the misting. I'm attaching my blog for new keepers.
