My male veiled chamaleon always hides

Hi,
I have a male and a female veiled chamaleons about 13 months old. The female is receptive. When I intruduce the female to the males cage, the male become dark in colur and run away and hide. The female tries to mate him.
What would be the reason please help.

What color is the female when she sees the male? Is the background color almost black?

Thank you for your message. The female is emerald green and there are small blue dots on it and there are dark yellow marks on it. The male is sometimes colourfull sometimes dark brown.
She goes after him and try to climp on him. She behives as if she is male.

If she's being aggressive she's trying to repel him not mate with him. Does she have, rock back and forth, hiss etc at him?
