My male chameleons vents are showing ?

My male chameleons vents have been showing for a few days now any idea what this could be ?

Are they red? I believe your referring to a hemipenal prolapse. That is when its reproductive organs stay outside of the body. They do come out briefly but are supposed to go back in. You need to see a vet if this is the case.

I agree, if it is red/purple in color, and has been out for a few days, you are dealing with a prolapse. Make sure you keep it moist (very important) until you are able to seek out a herp friendly vet. I hate being the one that says these kind of things...but if you are experiencing a prolapse, and it has been a few days, its very likely you will be dealing with some major infections also. The worst part is, even if corrected, and treated, the problem can reoccur.

I have never experienced a prolapse with any of my chams (knock wood) but if it doesn't go back in by itself fairly quickly you are to keep it moist with sugar water (water with sugar dissolved in it) and then get your chameleon to a vet as soon as possible. Sometimes when they've been out too long they dry up and almost always cause infection so you will at least need meds to keep your guy safeguarded against that. If the hemipene can't be saved it will be amputated but as male chams have two hemipene's, he can still go on to be a productive sire if that is your goal.

Also, if you notice anything abnormal about your chams appearance or actions, it is best to notify us right away because things happen fast with chameleons and it is important that they receive immediate and proper attention so the problem does not get worse. Even if it's something that just seems a little off, it won't hurt to ask, were here to help and will do the best that we can to do so.

It could be a seminal plug he can not pass by himself and giving him trouble.

Anyway, if this is still happening, you need to take him to a vet ASAP.

no the sugar water is to try and shrink it back in, and you should keep it moist with KY jelly.

If in fact he is constipated, it may not be a bad idea to give him a shower for like 30 mins. Get a plant that you can put him on and put it in the shower. Turn the water on warm NOT HOT and aim it so that it bounces of the leaves. Don't aim it directly at the plant, just so that mist gets on it. Keep him there for a little while, the warmth and wet may help his bowels move. But that's just a suggestion for if he is constipated, I doubt that will really do anything for a hemipenal prolapse. Regardless, use this to locate a vet close to you http://www.arav.org/find-a-vet/ and schedule an appointment asap.

That pictures really confusing but it looks like hemipenal prolapse to me. Take him to a vet!

This is going to sound mean, but why are you not listening to the experienced owners that are on this forum. They told you to take him to a vet right away and you are not doing that. You need to follow these steps that people tell you. They are not telling you these things just to be a jerk or to get money from you. They are doing it for the benefit of the chameleon!
