My first day with my new Ambanja - advice needed.

I just got my 3 mo. old Ambanja from the Kammer's today and had some questions that maybe some of you more experienced members could shed some light on...

I had a little scare with him climbing the ceiling of the enclosure and walking directly under his basking lamp, causing him to fall the 2 feet to the bottom. Is this normal (the ceiling climbing)? And will he learn from that experience and avoid doing that again? If not, what should I do to avoid this in the future.

Also, he is a bit wobbly and usure/hesitant of the next step he is about to take. I imagine this is a normal part of exploring his new home, but just thought I'd run it by you...

Any other advice for the first few days adapting would also be appreciated.

I look forward to everyone's responses and look forward to future discussions.

Thanks!

Ian

quite normal.
But, since this is fairly new animal, I would suggest you to quarantine the baby away from any other pets. Don't share any equipments, wash your hand b4 and after care.

When the baby poop, save the sample in a ziplock bag and send it to your local vet for fecal floatation test for parasites. You want to be wary specifically for coccidia as it is the nightmare of all chameleon keepers.

Welcome to the forum and have fun embarking the chameleon adventure.
Baby looked pretty and healthy.

they normally walk like that.
how far is the heat lamp from his basking branch? usually they cling on to the roof looking for more heat. id check that out soon.

I put a picture of the basking area at the bottom of this post.

There are two branches for him to choose from. The horizontl which is about 85F and directly below the lamp. And the second you see is on an angle but not directly under the lamp. Towards the top its about 95F. I have used both analog and digital thermometers.

Glad to hear that his behaviors seem normal. Glad to be part of the forum.
