My first bite!

I got my first chameleon bite today - from my smallest chameleon. In almost 5 years of owning chams, including 3 Veileds, I have never been bitten. Until today. Zippy tagged me when I was getting him out of his viv. Little blighter held on too and left a nice 'V' mark on my finger! I had been under the impression that where he is so small, with a tiny mouth, he wouldn't be able to bite hard enough to hurt. I was proved wrong!

Well now you don't have to worry so much about what bites are like. Be glad it wasn't a 1 pound melleri! Cham bites are just not a big deal compared to many others...monitors, big constrictors, tree pythons, most mammals.

Aw no! I hope you made him sit on the naughty step :) Teal'c tried to bite me the other day but thankfully it was my palm so she couldn't get her mouth round it! I dread the day when I get my first cham bite. I've only ever got an accidental one while feeding the Leo's and that's nothing.

Did you put him in time out?....what a bad boy to bite the hand that feeds him......I ask that question about how bad does a bite hurt several months ago and I think you can answer that now.

LOL!! 5 years with no bites until now!! Wow!!

I hand feed Squee alot because he is so uncoordinated, but he misses
and bites me a lot of times.
A few days ago I had a butter worm on my finger (I can see where he would make the mistake) and he clamped onto the tip of my finger while looking at me all innocent.
I was like, ooowwww, let go already!! it left a red mark, and some skin was
broken, but no blood.

I dont know why I let myself get bitten all the time, maybe I will get used to it, or get Squee a pair of glasses.

I can normally see where he is going to bite, and move the prey to that spot, or just stick it in his mouth when he opens it, which is usually what I do.
He just opens his mouth sometimes so I can shove the food in!! ;)

It really has been 5 years without a bite - in that time I have had 3 Veileds, my Jackson and now Zippy, my most feisty cham yet. He is very viv defensive and has threatened to bite and thrown himself at me loads of times, but never actually got me until yesterday. Oddly enough, once he is out and on my hand he calms right down and shows me his pretty colours rather than his black & white angry ones.
