* My Cheap and Affordable Drainage System

Well I've been having some problems with water not going anywhere or building up so I've got a few ideas from members and todays went to lowes..

1.) PICTURE ONE: is the stand I bought ($43.00) it has 5 levels but I only used two. I will use the other 3 when I get more cages.

2) PICTURE TWO: Is the small hole I made in the stand so the PVC pipe can fit to the drain in the tank.

3.) PICTURE THREE: I cut a 2" round hole in the foam board at the bottom of the cage and put the drain plug in.

4.) PICTURE FOUR: Is the 2" PVC pipe attached to the 2" drain plug that is attached to the bottom of the cage.

5.) PICTURE FIVE: The whole cage after it was put back together.

PRICE: Here is what I spent to get this done today. (2) PVC Drain plugs $2.99 each, (1) 12" PVC Pipe $3.99, (1) Drain bucket $1.89, (1) 2" drill bit ($7.99), (1) Hacksaw to cut PVC $7.99, (1) 5 Level Stand $42.99 for a total of $70.83 THIS IS FOR TWO CAGES ALSO not just one :) Also plant stand was $7.99 :( just needed something until I get Daves stands..

Nice work Sancho! Looks very familiar :) One note, you may wish to consider mounting the PVC Drain plugs underneath the pvc flooring. Otherwise the water has to rise up high enough to spill over the small lip created by the drain. 3/16" or so isn't bad, but we're not talking a lot of water at one time. Just a thought to help ya.

silver I just noticed that. Just trying to figure out how to get it under the PVC board

How do you plan on removing the bucket easily without having to take the pipe off every time? We do almost the same thing, just without the PVC. I would consider cutting the PVC a lot shorter for easier access.

Lol I was thinking the same thing.

personaly, 'm just drilling holes in the floor of the cage near the center.
then add a small pipe under the cage around the holes to flow the water into a bucket.

but I still think you did a fine job regardless that the pipe looks too big.

Ha ha ha like me! i am not winning a beauty pageant here, i drilled about a 1/2 inch hole and put the pot above it to weight the pvc board down towards the hole and just put a bucket under, works perfectly. But props to Sancho, not only does it get the job done, it easy on the eyes.

Perhaps the pipe is flexable and can be bent up out of way?

Looks like a neat simple solution, and cheap to boot. Nessesity is the mother of invention! :)

OK so yes I'm having a problem with the water having to rise over the lip of the drain so now I must do more research to figure out how I can get it level with the PVC board. It did collect about 2 inches of water yesterday but there is still water building up on the floor and some is coming out the sides of the cage. :(
