I have a male veiled chameleon, about a year old, I have had him since he was only a couple months old. I got him from the local pet store. We don't handle him much because he is usually pretty grouchy and hisses at you if try to touch him. I came home today and found him in the top corner of his enclosure I noticed his casque was really puffy and swollen. I touched it, and it was soft and squishy, not firm (the fact that he let me touch him is a little concerning). He had a fairly serious injury to it 2-3 weeks ago, where the top and front ridge of the casque split away from the rest of it, then he finished the job himself when he rubbed and scraped the rest of it off on the screened ceiling of his cage. I think it occurred through a combination of an old lighting burn, which prevented it from shedding correctly, then the build up of dead skin ultimately caused it to peel away. Anyway, it seemed to be healing well, his casque finally started to shed and grow back, so I thought he was in the clear, until today when I came home to this new startling development. I am afraid it may be an infection, but I really have no idea what could cause his casque to swell just like that, over the course of an 8 hr day. It looked normal (relatively speaking) yesterday and even this morning. Any theories out there, what could have caused such rapid edema??
