My Chameleon is staying very dark

My chameleon for some reason since i have had him has been a dark color. When i got him out of the box he was light brown with red at 2 months old. What could be the reason why he stays dark during the day? When he sleeps he turna back to normal colors

Dark colouring can be a number of things.is his heat upto spec he may be staying dark to absorb heat.it could be just stress colouring from adjusting to a new surrounding or something in his cage or line of sight that he doesn't like.or he could just be about to shed.I would suggest filling out the how to ask for help form and we can try a more informed diagnosis from there
