My Cham Tank!

Here is my tank that I just setup for a Veiled chameleon, I'll be getting my Veiled on the 11th. My basking spot is 95.4, and normal temps are 82.3. I have a umbrella plant, golden pothos, and a dracaena. I have all the normal chameleon bolbs, and some 6500K CFL for my plants.

I think your temps are a bit too hot. Basking should be 85° (give or take 1° or 2°), day time should be 70°-80°, night time temps should drop about 10°. I would also add some vines around the top to climb on. Here is a picture of my cage set up and my small free range setup. Any advice people have would be great.

Are you sure? I've read everywhere that Veileds require hotter temps than other species.

I just double checked the veiled care sheets both in the blogs and resources and the only temp for a veiled that is that high is for a fully grown adult male. Is this your first chameleon?

Ahh, could you link me to that article. My veiled will be about 2-4 months old when I get him. I'll adjust the temps right now! Yes, this is my first chameleon

This being your first cham I definitely suggest reading as much as you can on this site!! I didn't find this great place until after I had brought my baby Peepers home. I had thought that I was prepared because I asked all the questions I could think of to the pet store people before I rescued my baby, they where so misinforming I was not prepared at all!! I truly believe that if I had not found this site and took care of my cham as I was instructed by the pet store people he would either be in bad shape or already had passed. I will try to figure out how to copy and paste some links for you. You have enough time before your new baby comes home to insure that you are fully prepared, and believe me it will be worth every moment of research you do to make the first few days/weeks/months go smoothly for both you and your cham!

These are just some of the first things you should read, there are so many other great posts there is no way I know of them all. I have spent hours and hours on this site just reading posts, comments, blogs, and resources. Cham's are great pets if you are prepared, and willing to take the time to give them what they need. My best advice is read everything you can about costs, and care before your cham comes, and be sure you are ready for the commitment a cham requires!!

I know it is a lot of information (and that is only a taste), but its not as daunting as it seems once you get the hang of it (im still on that learning curve myself). Your cage looks good. Lower the temp to 85 or so until he's an adult. Add some plants towards the and some more branches, then you're set(assuming you have supplements, lighting, etc under control)

Classy, I just found out through pictures I posted in another thread that my Peepers has MBD... This is a nasty disease that a cham WILL get if feeders are not properly gut loaded, and dusted with the proper supplements... Now because of the improper care Peepers got in his former home we have an uphill battle ahead of us to keep this from getting any worse and hopefully repair some of the damage. Please I beg of you to read up on this and feel 100% comfortable with a supplement schedule to keep this from happening to your little one!!!

You said tank...is it really a fish tank? Is the lid screen? Is one of the "normal" lights a UVB?
Do you know about supp!meeting, feeding the insects? How old is the chameleon? Male or female?

It's a full screened tank. I have 10.0 UVB lights. When I buy my Cham which won't be till the 11th, he will be a male.

Thank you, my basking temp is now 84.3, I adjusted it a bit so it will get cooler.
