I was wondering if any one has ever experienced there veiled chameleon expanding his ribs and flattening out from top to bottom(not puffing up but looking wider and flatter) He's around 6 months old and just recently started doing this.

Is he near his heat source? They do it to absorb more heat, by flatting out there body for more surface area facing heat or light.

Its a defence mechanism, they do it when faced with something perceived to be a predator or another cham, to look larger..it says 'back off'. Probably males more the females but possibly both. Ive seen mine do it a few times. Other lizard species also do this.

They also do that, same behaviour, diff reason. would usually go lighter on the side facing heat if its reason #2. (smswiss) will go darker/brighter all over if reason no#1 (mine)

eitherway, nothing to worry about if its not doing it constantly. :)

Thanks for the quick response! He is normally laying directly under his light in the middle of one of his plants when i walk in and see him doing this.

I didnt know if this had something to do with the very little he has been eating or not.

Might want to up the watts on your basking bulb. The heat helps with digestion.

So, might be why the slow down in appetite. Males will consume less as they reach maturity too.

ill have to try this on the way home. It was also mentioned to me to try a bird vitiam of vita i believe. ultravite made by vita-sol was what i was told to give him a drop of every day for around a week. A warm shower was also reccomended which i think i will try tonight when i get home from work. Have you ever heard of giveing chameleon's bird vitiam's?
