Is it my dear Chameleon's one light and one ceramic heating thingy that made my heating bill jump from $115 to $230?

Anyone?
I hope it's that I haven't been shutting down my computer at night recently, but did anyone else notice that their chameleon supplies are electricity hogs?

I think there is something else going on. I have 5 clip ons and 4 UV bulbs going and my light bill has gone up negligibly, at least nothing that I have noticed. Household bulbs don't take much power and neither do the fluorescents. I can't comment on the ceramic heating thingie, but I would recommend you look elsewhere for the increase. Perhaps call your power company and complain.

I am running about 14 flourescent lights and 14 heat lamps and my electricity bill is about $45 more monthly.

Does your home get below 65f if not you dont need a ceramic heater you should just use a normal household bulb for basking during the day. At night everything should be shut off . The size of your cage will determine what watt bulb you should use a basking site of 90f should be provided.

It shouldn't have caused that kind of jump, not even a small reef tank would have caused that kind of jump, HOWEVER.

1) If your electricity company has been simply estimating your usage all year, this may be their year end catch up where they actually read the meter and charge you the difference.

2) Where I live, they have decided to enact a "fuel surcharge" that nearly doubled everyone's bills last month.

So I would say its not you that changed, rather the electric company is just tightening the screws.
