My plan is... I would like to become a Chameleon 'Expert' As id call it... lol... id like to start breeding maybe in a month or so... i am very new to chameleons, infact i just got my first one this christmas... i have read many sites... including raisingkitten... julirschaeleons.. etc... i know quite a bit about chameleons... just need some 'tricks' And 'tips' And a good teacher to teach me everything about breding, I am probably only goin to breed veileds for the start, thats what everyone pretty much wants down here... So..

Please Help Me Out... Send me some tips... Teach me your tricks... After all We All Have To Start Somewhere

$$$$$$$$$$$$ Money, i do not really care much about with breeding, id like to just breed and 'break even' So i dont really spend anything just use my work to get more happy people with a chameleon..

Please Help Me Out.. :D:)

Keep reading, keep searching the internet, keep researching, ask questions

oh, and BTW...keep reading :D

This is very good advice.
Breeding veileds or panthers isn't rocket science.
It's very easy to get two CB chameleons to breed.
Wait for them to reach a mature age and weight, then stick them together.
One month later you have eggs. 7 months later you have more babies then you know what to do with.
They will take up most of your free time, and eat you out of house and home.
Be ready to drop a wad of cash on crickets, FF's, cages, lighting, etc.

Your plan has several flaws, not the least of which you dont yet know much about chameleons (based on all the PM questions you have been sending me).

TAKE YOUR TIME TO LEARN WHAT YOU ARE DOING before you jump into breeding.

Good advise. :)
Learn a bit of your chameleon and his behavior.
after all, a month is a bit premature.

I suggest waiting at least a year.

Ehh..not so fast. Here's another >150 articles for you to read: http://www.chameleonnews.com/?page=reference There are also ~20 published chameleon books you should read and once you finish that, you still need actual experience to fall back on. You can't just skip that part, its a critical aspect.

Take the advice people give you here about breeding.

1+1 doesnt not = 2 with breeding and rasing chameleons properly.

its more like 1+1 = 18-80 + 24,000 crickets give or take + many different containers/cages and lights.......then add 18-80 poops to pick up along with proper cricket care to feed your babies...and some more poo....and...probably some more crickets and TIME !!!!!

not trying to be discouraging but make sure you know what your getting into before you start.

Thanks to everyone

Sounds like i am WAYYYY Not Ready :) I will keep reading... and reading and reading :p I obviously dont know much on how to keep the babys so i will read the sits people have posted, thank you and like ive said i Plan on waiting atleast like 3 months Before i even think about buying him a Girl.. Id Like if anyone is willing to be my 'Guide' To this... i am going to read sites, and if anyone has enough patience to deal with a Fifteen year old guy, who know only what hes read Then Thanks!! Id love that, But right now im just gonna read sites... So Thanks to you All! :)

Julirs

Julirs... Do you think when my 4 month male veiled is about a year, when hes ready to mate, do you think i could buy a female from you? Just cause i trust you it'll be either you or this lady Sandra, if shes still breeding... but i know by your site you have much experience and i trust you have good babys :p Would you sell me one and would it be able to be shipped to canada? :)

Well-the bad part is it is too expensive to ship to Canada-you have to get permits and there are quarantines. Very few people in the US sell/ship to Canada. The good part is that there are great Canadian breeders on here that I am sure can get you a great female!

NewOwner, your male will most likely be able to breed at 6 months of age. If he came from an agressive breeding line. But, you should wait until he's about 8-9 months old until you purchase him a female. That way, you know how to care for them, plus you can still learn because you have different things to do between males and females. But, once she gets about 10+ months you can start introducing her to the male to see if she's interested. Usually, people don't like telling you to breed to early because it can hurt the mom bad! And any pet owner wouldn't want that. But, by showing her to him can help with getting her used to the fact that he'll be with her in her life. But, if you do it too early, or too long, she'll get stressed. So, timing is everything. Hope this helps!
