My beginning as a reptile rescue nut

Well, recently I rescued a lizard. This is the second one that has been adopted by my family (the first being an iguana), this one I saved is an adult beardie. I think that it is male (fairly certain, though not 100%), he was being kept in poor conditions, and wasn't handled properly, thus whenever approached he hisses and puffs. Though now he is getting better. Being fed on really cheap stuff didn't help. I think his growth was stunted as he is very small for an adult at only about 1 foot. Poor thing. I'm now waiting to get my new 40gal breeder for him, he's in a temporary enclosure, very active, and attentive. I've just gotten a baby albino pacman frog. I'm looking for a name for him, I'm thinking either Bottle Cap II (after my tarantula who I had to give up, thanks to my folks), Button, or Rube (if you've seen Dead Like Me, you'll know what I mean) I have a bad feeling that I'm going to end up rescuing every lizard/critter that comes my way. EEP!:D My parents are going to kill me. Lol.

I know the feeling!! I must have a huge sign thats invisable to me hanging on my front gate that says Humane Socitey-No kill shelter Please leave all unwanted animals here!! I'll never be able to afford to have children at this rate, my weekly pet bill is 1/2 our income!! But, we love every last critter!!

:) I get at least one email a week, sometimes more, from folks who got my name and email from friends who are asking me to take in their unwanted/uncared for/can't-keep-anymore reptiles. Mostly it's snakes, since that's my specialty, but I've gotten offers of tortoises, iguanas, toads, turtles and many others. Sadly, I have to turn down 99% of them, since I live in a small apartment with a partner who is getting fed up with all the space the animals are taking up. But I always redirect them to rescues and people I know who are looking for that type of herp.

Every now and then, though, I get to take one. Just the other day, I was allowed to accept an 'adoption' of a baby Blue Tongue Skink - the herp I've always dreamed of owning! I have to find a new home for my rabbit in order to keep the skink, but since Ari (partner) is showing signs of being allergic to the bunny that's not really a bad thing. :)

Just remember, when taking in rescues or adoptions, to observe good quarantine and good sense. Lotsa luck with the rescues!

It was this way with me in NC. I ran a rabbit rescue, yes RABBIT but people seemed to ignore that word and focused on rescue. While I had over 50 bunnies at any given time (all found homes before we moved), I also had 17 other exotics that came in ranging from birds to hedgehogs, chinchillas, and sugar gliders and well as reptiles. Someone brought me a baby bird with its beak torn off. Didnt even have feathers..Just left it so I had to travel clear across town to a wildlife expert... Crazy! But we rehomed all of them except 2 bunnies before moving here. Bless you all for taking in those that weren't taken care of properly!!!

I have to vote for Rube, because I LOVE that show! :D I am just upset that they only made 2 seasons. Own the only two they made though!
