Plants

The start of it looks good but you are going to wont to add a lot more plants maybe a log or to.What are you using as a base and do you have a drainage layer under your substrate as this helps the plants you put in

Where are the plants?? The highways look good but they will feel naked to the world unless you put something in there for them to hide in! Check the safe plant list for more options but ferns, schefflera, pothos, etc. are all good choices. As odd as it sounds, the more places they have to hide the more you will see them because they will feel protected enough to come out! Many more bushy plants!

yes, I do have a drainage layer. I am using a combination of the clay balls, eco-earth ??? (used as a bottom layer for plants) and gravel. I had to mix all 3 because I had a little of each. I do not plan on putting anymore money into this tank b/c I purchased the 10 gallon vert and sunk quite a bit of money into it.

Plants---I am on my way out the door to get some plants.

I will repost pictures once I add the plants.

yes please add more plants. With my main 1.5 colony along with a ton of plants I use fake onion grass on the front glass. Its like a screen between them and I. I can totally see through it but it makes them feels comfortable like I can't see them. Especially because the females are always looking to test dig and lay. you don't want to disturb them.

The pickens were slim

I went to Walmart and found some plants.

I even took the list off of Florida chams with me.

You know how fast they change things (Halloween stuff will be up next month).

With this store, spring/summer stuff is almost out of season.

There weren't many plants.

I managed to find:

2 dracaena spikes

1 spider plant

1 Hoya plant that was split into 5 smaller plants

1 large purple queen plant.

I went for a walk today and found plenty of broken limbs from our last storm.

I also found some thick branches.

The limbs, twigs and thick branches are soaking in water and will be backed in the oven shortly.

The plants are all in place in the attached picture.


I can still see some gaps so I will make a midnight run back to Walmart and buy some green poster board.

I have some large scrap book pages that I can glue to the green poster board.

Other than prayer, poster board and some thick branches......I cannot figure out what else to do.

I am still open to any last minute ideas. I have no problem picking up something else....if absolutely necessary.

Last but not least:

I apologize for not answering earlier, my substrate is a mix of coconut compressed brick, potting soil and some soil from my springtails culture.

I do have sphagnum moss. Do you think I should add to tank?

I have leaf litter.

Being that I am getting 2 gravid females I do not want to hinder them from digging their holes. (that does not sound right....oh well)

Looks a lot better already! What you really still need though is at least one bushy plant, thick, lots of branches with bushy leaves. Even with a female pair they will want some cover thats thick enough that they don't always have to be in sight of each other. It is important to allow them to hide from each other to minimize stress. If you're also getting a male then I'd say a few bushy plants, but there should at least be one for females. If you're not worried they could hide too well in it then it's not bushy enough!

Do you think I can get a fake plant from Walmart?

Oh I forgot.....I am get 2 females.....no males.

Sure you can get a fake plant - wash it really well with soap and water to get rid of chemical residues before adding it though. I don't think you need the sphagnum moss but if you want to use it I'd just add a few pockets here and there so there is still exposed dirt for the girls to dig in.

It's small because it's just for one baby but that's the kind of foliage density they like so they can hide or use the little highways to venture out and wander around.

wow it looks really cool not sure but the other pics didn't have this but you can go to any pet store exotic or reptile and get some forest pictured background for the tank this will help with them feeling secure and hiding. also if you didn't know when you get them they like to play dead so deffinatly make sure its dead before you throw the little boogers out.

You tanks are gorgeous.

I saw some bromeliads. They were absolutely gorgeous.

I think I should have got this plants

I got distracted and had to get my pinhead crickets and mealworms situated.

Also yesterday was my day to harvest my fruitflies.

I setup fresh cultures.

After I get some shut eye I plan to get some fake plants.

Looks perfect to me, I never kept a pygmy myself but all those setups look so nice........
