anyone on here using them at the moment? or have you in the past? just wondering out of the many brands which one to try or a few different ones to try..? i dont want to go anything bigger then a 100-125 watt. i can get the exo-terra ones at my local pet store for $27. any use with those..? what about the t-rex, zoo med, from what i understand mega ray is the best but i would like to hear about the others also. thanks everyone!

Don't try any different ones, just use mega ray! :D Honestly mate, they're by far the best MVB to use for your cham. I've spoken to breeders of all sorts of reps and they switched to mega ray as soon as they were available. I lucked into my first as they were out of stock of power suns and I'm so glad they were. Best result I've had in a long time!

Not sure about mega ray, but I can tell you from first hand experience the power sun has a good chance of blinding your cham. My cham would sleep during the day and not eat. Took it out and a week later he was back to normal. But I guess some people have had good luck with them. I just wouldn't risk it.

How close did you have the power sun bulb? I know on the mega ray, for the 120w at least, that the bulb must be at least 12" away from the chameleon at all times! Obviously, with higher wattages the bulbs need to be further away! If it was too close, then the cham would be dosed with too much UVB and it can lead to photo-kerato-conjunctivitis.

i read that happened to your cham but i have heard no other problems? i was planning on "as a start anyways" setting up so my cham cant get any closer to the top of the cage then 8 inches " its a 4 ft tall cage" and have the light hung 12 inches above the top. in another post i made i can get exo-terra products at my local pet store ata discount because i worked there for quite some time. but the exo terra bulb is 125 watts and i didnt know how they were compared to the rest. im really struggling whether i want a MV or flourescent setup. doing as much research as i can. thanks for the help so far guys. anyone have any pics of their setup with a mv lamp?>

Personally, I would choose a mega ray over any other UVB source as they are seriously better, especially if you look over all the facts and figures! Not just that, they light up your enclosure 'properly' as the sun would, so it's it look bright and full of life! Plants and chams love it!

The problem with photo-kerato-conjunctivitis has only really happened with compact UV bulbs (the model that caused the problems has now been withdrawn from circulation) and you should never really encounter problems unless something is wrong with your bulb/setup.

Here's my setup:

The mega ray is the big bulb in the centre (I have a main basking bulb on the left and a secondary one on the right if the temps aren't right) It doesn't look like it's high enough from that perspective, but the bottom of the bulb is 12" above the top exactly, and the wood running from front left to back right is between 8 - 12" from the top (it bends and curves and stuff! :D)
