Mutiple Questions from a Newbie

I am going to be getting a chameleon as soon as I get out of my dorm, which will be this summer. I've narrowed my cage search down to the reptibreeze 24x24x48 cage and a male green veiled. A few general questions have arisen.
1.) Many people have recommended keeping the bottom of the cage bare, or lined with paper towels as chameleons simply live in the branches and won't need substrate. If I want a live plant, what will it grow out of? Not quite sure the logistics of that.
2.) I will be at college next semester in a pet friendly house, however I'll have to go home for Thanksgving, Winter break, etc. What is the best way to transport? Would at night be better, as it will be dark, and they can tolerate a temperature drop during night time? Should I have a transport cage? How would that work?
3.) I live in Houston and go to school in College Station, so it's fairly humid already. Will I need one of the expensive automatic misting systems to keep humidity levels precise, or would a hand sprayer be fine? Also, will this hand spraying be enough for the chameleon's daily water intake as they only drink from drops or moving water, etc..?
4.)Two possible names for him: Mo or Cam. I got Mo from the ending of Camo, but my roommate suggested Cam. What do you like?

Here is my humble answer to u....
1)there is a thing called potted plants and fake plants, depending what u like better.live plant can bring up the humidity but needs maintenance.
2)Depending how far is ur home n ur college,if its far like days, then u should ship it home,if its closer, then a styrofoam box with a heat pack in winter will be suitable for your traveling choice.
3)Auto misting system are much better for ur schedule, unless u planning to cut class in between jus to do the hand spray with the cham,u can choose the hand spray in between ur auto mist system....water is ur cham's best friend, give as much as the cham wants.
4)I Like "MOMO" jus because it sounds so good that u need to repeat it twice:)

You can use potted plants and put rocks over the dirt. Hand misting is fine as long as you can do it at least 3-4 times a day. I suggest also buying a Little Dripper (5-10 dollars). You will need somewhere for the water to go so it doesn't just pool up and overflow at the bottom. There are a lot of examples of homemade systems that can do this. I just drilled holes in the bottom of the cage, put the cage on four little stands, and stuck a tray underneath.
