Ok everyone I have a question, im moving my chameleon from ym parents house to my apartment, and im wondering the best way to have him travel, im a box, small tote, or a plastic container. etc... i live in illinios and there weather is gettign between 40-50 degrees, the ride will be about 25 minutes, but he would have to stay in the crate for prolly an hr, so i need some assistant ance ideas on how to transport him. please

I had to take mine on a five hour drive and honestly, there are lots of ways to do it. I ended up getting a chinese food to go container that was large enough for my chameleon (he was pretty small) and lined the bottom of it with some crinkled paper towels for him to grab onto. I put a lid on top and had holes that were made from the inside going outward (dont want sharp edges) and put him in a brown paper bag and wrapped it up. He was sleeping on and off through out the trip and he arrived fine.

You don't want to stress your chameleon out obviously. If it can't see whats going on, it will be less stressed overall. A shoe box works great if your chameleon can fit it.

I was was given a recommendation for moving my cham during the cold months in case I had to make a vet visit. I don't remember who said it, it was a respected forum goer though. They said to use either a decent sized Tupperware or box and line it with a cloth or towel, drape it over the cham and close the box. Some crumpled paper might add some extra space and insulation if you're worried about it maybe being cool during the move.

I think the towel over the head deal calms them down a bit, it seems to work with most animals.

Good luck with your move!

This is pretty easy really. A cardboard box with a perch wedged securely inside. Moist paper or cloth towels in the bottom. Warm up your car so it is comfortable for you, then bring out the cham. Most chams will just sleep in the dark for the trip. Have your cage as ready to set up at the new place as you can.
