Mouth Rot

If there's an injury to the lip/mouth then a bacterial infection (usually from the germ pseudomonas) sets in. It almost always needs to be cleaned out properly and the chameleon put on the appropriate antibiotic. Its often so stubborn that it needs to be done more than once before yo will get rid of it.

You can always try Panacur. LLL Reptile sells it and Vets use it for everything from parasites to mouth rot.

Panacur is an antihelmith medication...not an antibacterial one...so how will that help?? Also...pseudomonas and other bacteria that cause mouth rot need to be cleaned out of the area unless its very very minor.

Thanks for all the info. I took him to the vet and he gave me some baytril. Is that at a good antibiotic to start him on? I am also giving him reptaid bcs of the beneficial anti bacterial properties. Anything else I can do to treat this condition? Should I start cleaning out the wound site with a betadine solution?
Any info will be appreciated. Thanks.

Don't give him Reptaid during antibiotic treatment

The makers of Reptaid tell you not to give Reptaid while an animal is being treated with antibiotics.
I suspect that it may be too much for a cham's body to process or it may make the antibiotics unable to do their job--either way, a losing proposition.
It's easy to think that natural medicines are somewhat harmless, but some of the most powerful medications, etc. are plant based---for example: digitalis a very powerful heart medicine.
Maybe it makes the point better to note that cyanide is another 100% natural substance (it's derived from plants).

Please do read the link that Jannb provided--it mentions use of iodine and has alot of very good info.
Personally, I would be concerned about the added stress of holding your cham and cleaning his mouth.
Hopefully, someone with alot of experience with mouthrot will comment.
It includes this:
Reptiles should be kept at temperatures near the upper end of their required temperature gradient to ensure maximum benefit from the antibiotics and to boost their immune system function. Reptiles who would otherwise have temperatures dropped at night should be kept at their daytime gradients.
As for Baytril treatment, I'll quote Ryan of Tiki Tiki Reptiles
if you use baytril just make sure you water them a lot. I give like 3-4 ml of water after I give them the dose and shower them every other day. I have only lost one cham being treated with baytril and it was not a result of baytril.

What people need to understand is you need to hydrate while giving them the drug. To fear the medication is silly , I do feel caution should be used. It is a tool and a very helpful tool.
That's from post #18 of this thread:

Ryan's comments on hydrating chams well during Baytril treatment has been echoed many times by others on this forum, apparently for good reason.
