I just walked in the bedroom and aLexa had her mouth wide open just sitting there? i could see her tongue and everything and she was just looking at me? It didn't appear that she was angry or anything? She wasnt spotted(how she usually is when shes angry), she wasnt swaying back in forth, hissing or even have her chin out.. When i opened the cage door she closed her mouth.. So i thaught maybe she was thirsty so i misted the cage and made her dripper 'drip more' lol..

Also she's got this dark brown spot on her side? I'm woundering what this is from? (picture included)

what are youre cage temps?
mouth open for reasons other than hissing, eating, drinking, or for a respiratory infection, is normally because the chameleon is too hot.

so measure your basking temps please.

as for the spot, probably a bruise.

you did not mention your temps. Hot temps can make them open their mouth to thermoregulate. Why do you have the Nature Sun on top of the Uvb and the basking bulb? Is that a plant light? Does it give off heat?

my panther does the same thing

My 7 month old panther does the same thing and i measured the basking temp which is between 89 and 95...and the cage is about 72 to 75 ...i am using a 60 watt blue daylight bulb that puts out heat and a 5.0 reptisun bulb for uvb. the day light bulb also puts out uvb...so i wonder like the first comment what am i doing wrong or what can i do because i know the temps should be around 90 at the basking area.

I have a exo terra light fixture and i needed to hook up another floresant to it cause its got 2 outlets . the repti sun and nature sun dont produce much heat, the only reason i got the nature sun was because i didnt want to over doo it by adding another repti sun 5.0 to it.. all it does it add more light to the enclosure... I need to get a temp gun.. i only caught her the once doing it, so i have no idea why she was doing ittt... I used to have a red night heat basking bulb that i used during the day it was a 100 watt and that was too much cause i noticed it was bothering her eyes..(someone picked me up the wrong bulb thats why i was using it and since i switched it theres been no problems)

I need to get a temp gun asap to measure it, I mist alot to keep up the humidity and keep her hydrated also

if she only did it once, its probably because her basking spot temp is too high.
if its over 85, raise the bulb to reduce the temp.
